Biography
Vataja was the middle child of his three ridgeback clutch having an older brother and younger gender free sibling. Out of the three he was the least ridgeback like being more generous than taking. He even gave his large nest to Kaiku, who was a fae, to sleep in when Skugga kicked her out in her sleep. Soon after leaving the hatchery and getting his very own nest a travelling artist arrived to the clan. Azul knowing the clan the best helped them with whatever they were needing offering to make them a nest when Vataja stepped in and offered his new nest for the guest. He allowed them to sleep in there telling concerned Azul that he could sleep under the sky and even offered his lunch for the guest. During the following days Vataja slept under the sky serving food for their guest neglecting his own needs to keep them satisfied. He ignored Azul’s worries about his health and kept doing that even when more dragons joined the older spiral. He would have time to rest and eat once the guest left but until that he would keep them satisfied. At first thing were going nicely but the visit dragged on and Vataja started to get tired needing to get up early to make sure their guest had everything alright and could not go to sleep early because the clan was still very active. He also hadn’t eaten anything stodgy for some time and was constantly hungry. One morning, when trying to go check the guest he was feeling weak and barely got up. He had barely moved from his sleeping spot when Azul having yet to go to sleep brought Malvadust to see him. The healer was fast to tell Vataja that he had caught flu and ordered him to get to his nest and rest. Vataja though opposed that the guest using his nest and he needing to make sure they had everything they needed. While they were fighting over who should rest and where the guest arrived giving their support to older dragons. They had noticed Vataja’s weakening state and had gotten very worried when he had not come to make sure they ”got out of the nest” them saying that like Vataja had been too serving. They said that though being dedicatad to make sure the visitor had all they needed he should learn to put his own health before serving others. They were about to leave and helped Vataja reach his nest he not being sure if he should feel bad for having seemingly annoyed the guest or for driving himself to a state in which he needed their help. Vataja spent the following nights basically just sleeping and eating Azul bringing him food during her nightly tours. While in bed Vataja thought about serving their guests and had an idea of making an inn where they could sleep so he didn’t need to give his bed for them, and the clan could have more guests at once. He also thought how Megan, being a diurnal resident, could give them food if and when the guests were up during days. He could help with that during nights if they didn’t get food themselves or until the clan got some kind of food place. Vataja liked that idea and upon healing he went to talk with his aunt Rosalin assuming a snapper like her would have natural gifts with designing buildings. She had never designed any kind of building before but was happy to help and had pretty good blueprint ready in one night. The clan was not that actively visible and the amount of visitors would probably stay small so the inn didn’t need to be big for time being. They showed it to the leaders neither having issues with the project and the clan started the building project. Rosalin had something in her mind after having done the blueprint and left the project soon leaving the lead for Vataja. That didn’t bother him it giving him the freedom to make the inn of his liking. He didn’t do much work until decorating started and instead spent his time studying how he could expand the inn if need to be temporarily. After the inn was finished Vataja moved to live in there having made a room just for him so he could be there ready for arriving guests. He worked to keep the inn comfortable for anyone who might arrive to the clan maintaining inn’s spells going to see his clan mates when not needing to be on guard. 
Vataja kept maintaining his inn it usually having either none or hundreds of visitors at the time those usually being exchange students from all around the world. Vataja served them the best he could he occasionally wishing the inn had been made bigger the space altering spells being tiring to maintain when the visits were usually month long. Luckily after each peak there were usually many months of rest and Vataja sure used them to rest. It had been quite some time since the inn had been build being followed by a temple when Rosalin being disappointed by the small temple decided to make a new one with the help from Pernis. That project got bigger and soon it included every building in the lair the two wanting to make the entire lair look good. They approached Vataja about what they wanted the new inn to look like he telling them it needing to be much bigger. The two understood that they having planned to get outside help and they needed a big inn for that. They visited him few more times to make up their mind about the inn they eventually getting the blueprints ready and the clan accepted the whole project. Since the clan most likely needed room to hold visitors that were to be hired to help with projects the inn was the first thing the clan started to work on. However, before they could actually start something went to the familiars they starting act hostile all around them that slowing the project down significantly. Like that wasn't bad enough Silence attacked a plague clan out of the blue the threat of a war halting the project fully. Few plague dragons arrived to the clan while the leaders were trying to solve the situation Vataja needing to deal with the a bit rude visitors most of them just waiting the war to ignite so they could strike from the inside. The war was avoided and after housing plague dragons for weeks Vataja housed few arcane dragons as they were preparing for the House Cup. After that was done Vataja was tired and just wanted to rest but then news about missing leaders reached him followed by a sudden earthquake. That was very abnormal for the arcane domain and Vataja stepped out of the inn only to be greeted by a massive earth wall around the lair. He went to see if anyone knew where it had come from and arrived just in time to hear Shadow and Sapny declare their goal of summoning the Shade in few days. Vataja did not know what to do and just helped others there being no need to maintain the inn getting into the lair being extremely hard while getting out was borderline impossible. He spent his time with his clan mates ignoring his fear gathering with everyone else when the summoning was supposed to start. The Sun was just a moment from being eclipsed when the clan heard leaders bring reinforcements to the clan just as the world became dark and something forced everyone to bow. Vataja had no control over himself and when he heard the reason behind that ask him to submit to Them he said "no" the entity forcing him to battle the nearby dragons. He had small but bleeding wounds once he was eventually freed and he returned to his inn to get himself patched up as others rushed to defeat the summoners. While in the inn Vataja cleaned the rooms real quickly being sure the reinforcements wouldn't just leave after the battle and once the healing offices were full he offered the rooms to be used as extra spaces. Once the battles were over Vataja joined healers helping them to take care of the wounded the inn being mostly filled with visitors residents being in the temple. Along with helping healers Vataja made sure to serve their visitors they being all very notable and once they started to leave with clan getting things under control Vataja was beyond tired. The clan rested before continuing its projects the summoning attempt having been draining. They were slowly getting back to work when one day while sleeping a dragon arrived to the inn. The dragon was wearing Behemoth symbols Vataja assuming they were either a messenger or a replacement ambassador the previous one, Glade, having been made outlaw for helping the summoners. He had hard time realizing that the replacement ambassador was Pix who had originally from the clan though had left long ago to study in the Observatory back when she had still been a male fae. Pix explained that since leaving she had moved to Behemoth where she had studied to become both an ambassador and food expert Vataja being excited to have finally someone to serve their guests good food with education and all. Rosalin was also happy about that and asked Pix's opinion about the cafeteria she designed that being build just next to the inn the two buildings being connected by a corridor. After having inn and cafeteria finished Vataja and Pix started to live as neighbors Vataja often coming to help Pix with her job he having way less of that. Pix paid back during visitor rushes, if she had time with her two other jobs.

  Name origin: He has swamp like colors so Finlandia named him "vataja" which is an alternative term for "luhta" which is "flood meadow" or "swamp" in Finnish.

Traits
Vataja is an arcane ridgeback who stood out from his siblings being the only one who wasn’t purple. Instead, he had brownish green body with paler markings on darker color and blotched dark blue wings with a hint of brownish orange at the edges. He though later changed his genes and his body is now muted green with brown blotches and his wings are striped with a hint of brown. Like all of his siblings he also has thick scales covering his face, back, sides, legs and arms down from elbows and knees and backs of his wings and tips of his wing fingers his being pale green. He has pale green body paint covering his wings on both sides. The pattern looks like an old treasure map and where the rivers would be the pattern is broken letting the natural blue of the wings to fill the color in. The pattern of the paint continues to his shoulders where is takes up a form of compass tattoos and runes in color of brass. He has somewhat sharp nose which he often uses to hold inn’s keys and his raptor claws are short while his regular claws are longer. His spines are also short and curvy almost resting on his back instead of standing up. His eyes used to be common pink but he turned them very dark pink to make them contrast less with his natural colors. Vataja is laid-back dragon wanting to appear approachable to those who arrive to his inn. He wears neutral brown clothes not wanting to hurt anyone’s eyes and avoids having anything fancy not wanting to look snobby and instead looks rather rustic. He has simple brown fez, vest, treads and gloves, brown and blue scarf around his neck and brown framed glasses that help with his somewhat poor eye sight and help him understand text even if he isn’t quite awake to read yet. He also has a notebook in which he stores his clients’ names, arriving and leaving dates and what they possibly want at certain points. It has pen attached to its back. Vataja has kind, gentle and overall generous sounding voice and clear speech. He naturally speaks a bit slowly but not notoriously so and is easy to understand regardless of dialect or natural language of the other dragon he being able to speak multiple decently. He has rough Finnish accent.
Vataja is kind, calm, generous and helpful dragon with a strong will to meet and help new dragons. He has a lot of respect towards travelling dragons and is more than willing to offer them shelter to rest in. He would put them before himself and neglect his own needs to make sure they were satisfied till ready to continue their journeys but being slightly embarrassed by the time he got sick from doing that he is not doing that anymore. He though still puts the guests’ needs before his clan mates and could be taken advantage of if he was more simple minded. He doesn’t really pay mind to what food or entertainment his guests ask but does notice if there are oddly specific requirements or the request is not something ”normal”. Vataja though normally not seen in public is rather social dragon enjoying company of his clan mates time to time. He is more often seen spending time with his guests but if there aren’t any he doesn’t have issues with joining clan’s small parties or games though he avoids straying too far from his inn. That way it is easy to see if any visitors arrive to the clan so they are not greeted by an empty inn. Vataja is very precise dragon keeping his inn clean at all times and doesn’t mind putting work to keep it clean. Though not having left the lair in years nor having joined clan’s other works he maintains the visitors’ first impressions by keeping the inn in good condition. To help maintain the inn Vataja is accompanied by a calculating candelabra he calls Lumière. It can’t talk and its ways of helping are actually rather limited but it is still important for Vataja it waking him up if visitors arrive while he is asleep and aiding them the best it can while he isn’t around. If not in the lobby keeping guard for day time visitors it is rarely seen anywhere near Vataja either guarding the inn or running his businesses while he is doing something else somewhere else.
Vataja, though not a mage, is rather skilled with magic having mostly learned spells to help with the inn. The inn has multiple spells casted on it by him and he makes sure they remain active. Those spells include portal spells that allow walking to other floors and shrink all too large dragons to be ideal size remaining in effect as long as they don’t pass through portal the other way or exit the inn. He can also recreate rooms by twisting space between two built ones but those need to be undone after certain time as they could cause a lot of issues with space in inn and near inn if left active for too long. He can also use regular item levitation and size altering spells to make sure items, mostly keys, are right size for the dragon visiting the inn. He can also create temporary keys for the temporary rooms. |
