IT'S TIME TO GET POSITIVE!
It's been a wild and terrible 4 years for me (writing this as of 2018). Grandad died of cancer and I almost lost my mother to her second lot of it. It screwed my first year of Uni up pretty badly. I've been all over the place emotionally since and in my darkest moments I feared I may have given myself an illness by mere wishing. I don't want to be like that anymore. I'm not going to be like that anymore. It's time to take a stand and finally convince myself that I'm someone worth fighting for. Low self esteem is crippling and none of this mental rewiring is going to be easy. But, in the end...I'll triumph. I’ve been so determined to see this kid become a double. I kept scattering, even when I felt like giving up. And now that she is a double it proves that with enough effort, time and patience (and some money) I achieved what I set out to do. Like most things in life, good things aren’t just gonna fall in your lap. You have to buckle down and do something so that when you look back you can see the journey for what it is.
This wonderful little girl, named aptly after the Greek goddess of Victory (and the popular shoe brand memes), marks the day when I realised a few things. Namely, being called Shrek shouldn't have affected me so much in Intermediate School. The whole point of those movies was to look past physical beauty and realise that even the ugliest people have good hearts and personalities that outshine the norm. I've been through so much in my life and sure, I'm not the most mature person but I can learn. I have a voice and I have the right to stand up for myself and be heard no matter what. I've spent too much time with too high of a standard to live up to that I've forgotten what small victories mean. Despite everything that happened to me, I’ve graduated and gotten my first aid. I’ve volunteered at a library and have found work through a government organisation. I’m looking for another, more permanent position now as well. I’m still alive. Thing is...sometimes the small victories are the fundamental turning points in determining who you are and who you choose to be.
