Sykes
— End of an Era —

She was born to the end of a familial line that thought themselves gods. Her parents, beautiful as they were, were far too brash and proud for life, it seemed. Her mother, a beautiful yet destructive force of nature. Her father, too vain to tear his eyes away from the mirror he claimed his charge. It was a disjointed upbringing for a child. Both of her parents found untimely demises to their own pride, leaving Sykes and her still bleary eyed siblings alone in the world. And oh, what a world to be left alone in. One where young gods fought while magic teemed to life; and every living thing seemed to be out to get you. Sykes was left alone in this dangerous world, trapped in an inky forest that knew no kindness to dragons, nor its own fauna.

She was still unable to fly when she stumbled into a reserve. The clearing was well protected by layers of thick brambles, all curved in a way that made it seem as if the land itself was folding in to hold you close. And oh, did it hold something near and dear. Unicorns, dazzling her with their beauty and grace. Powerful beasts of all ages and sizes, protected here in this grove, hidden from the eye of any wrathful god or destructive dragon. She was brought here unwittingly, and found herself enamored. The young dragon grew to spend all of her days here, growing up among the beautiful unicorns she soon grew to call family. She was raised in elegance, blessed with a horn as she grew older, her wings all but useless from lack of use. But, that was okay, they said. For she had something better than wings, now.

The one thing about unicorns, though, is they are cloyingly sweet with their words. She was raised by them, yes, but not without an edge of harshness. Comments of her appearance and gait always sliced through her like rose colored swords, icy and warm all at once. Every compliment was double edged, every praise had it's downfall. Oh, if only she wasn't truly a dragon, she could run with them as gracefully as the best, she could look so much finer without her clumsy wings and matted fur. So, she did as anyone would do when told she looked wrong from her loved ones.

She removed her wings.

It was Verikha who got Sykes to leave the daunting forest and her newfound family, encouraging the unicorn dragon to seek out her true purpose in life. He's her faithful companion, ever by her side, always lifting up her confidence. Or trying his best to, at least. Verikha is a loyal companion, calm despite his younger age. Though, truthfully, he's a romantic at heart, and always finds himself pushing Sykes to go mingle with the clan's Patron Father....

Of course, he'll never admit to this. Doing so would be admitting just how much he's mingled in her life, after all. And if he admits that, then, he might as well admit that he ῳ∆$ ₮ｻ∑ Я∑∆$◊и ｻ∑Я ק∆Я∑и₮$ ∂เ∑∂ เи ₮ｻ∑ ﾓเЯ$₮ קﾚ∆¢∑.
