Lana arrived at the end of spring. No one really noticed the shop spring up, but suddenly everything seemed a bit brighter. Where there once was an old dirt path there was now a lovely little cottage.
The cottage was nothing grand, just a small wooden home with hanging plants and overgrowing flowerbeds. The house always had a faint smell of flowers around it, and more often then not a soft humming came from inside.
Lana ran this shop by herself. She cared for the flowers, clipped them, sold them, and replanted them all on her own.
That is, until the neighbor a few roads down came to help.
The woods broke away into fields in a few separate places. Not many of these were populated heavily, with the clan members preferring shadowed areas more. Pea was a light fae at heart however, and so this little sanctuary where the sun warmed the grass was the spot she chose to build her home.
Pea had wandered down the paths near her home many a time. She knew every twist and turn, and knew all the neighbors by heart. That's why it came as a shock when she found Lana's cottage.
There was a small handwritten sign posted in front of it reading "flowers for sale!". Pea smiled at the neat handwriting, as she could see the faint lines where someone had used a ruler to make sure the sign was absolutely perfectly straight.
Pea trotted up the stairs and knocked lightly on the door.
"One minute!" A voice rang out. "Hi, how can I help you?"
Standing in front of Pea was a beautiful skydancer. She was adorned with citrine jewels and bright orange flowers.
Lana smiled at Pea. The small fae seemed clearly shocked by her presence.
"Hello?"
Pea blushed and awkwardly held out her hand for a handshake.
"I'm Pea, are you new around here?"
Taking her hand, Lana daintily shook it. "I'm Lana, I just moved in a few days ago. Would you care to come in?"
Pea blushed yet again, but managed to stutter out "Uh, yeah! Uh, I saw you were selling f-flowers?"
Lana opened the door wider and ushered Pea over to the table.
As the door opened, Pea took in her surroundings. The cottage was cozier than it looked on the outside. Lana had a small kitchen that was artistically cluttered with wooden tools and random flowers. A pot of tea was idly steaming, a delicious citrus smell wafting off of it. The kitchen was open completely and led right into the living space, where a large wooden table sat. The table was clearly a hand me down by the amount of scuffs and scratches on it, but it was charming.
On top of the table lay an assortment of even more flowers. Some were in a vase, some pressed, some strewn about in a seemingly unorderly fashion.
Lana gingerly picked up a garland of glowing yellow flowers and held it up to Pea as if she was measuring her.
"Here, hold this." She thrust it into Pea's arms.
Pea grabbed the flowers and stared at the swirling yellow light coming off of them.
"What are they?" She cocked her head and stroked the petals of one of the flowers. A soft trail of yellow light followed her claws as she lifted them away from the flower.
Lana chuckled. "I'm not sure, to be honest. I just thought they matched your eyes."
True to character, Pea blushed. She attempted to hand them back to Lana, but Lana shook her head and put her hand out to stop her.
"Consider it a gift. After all, I'd rather the neighbors like me than think all I want to do is take their money."
"But you're the new neighbor! I'm supposed to be the one to give you a gift." Pea huffed stubbornly.
Lana stroked her chin for a moment in thought, and then smiled.
"Well, how about you come back tomorrow and help me pick out the prettiest flowers to sell. That can be your welcoming gift."
Pea reluctantly shook her head yes. Lana smiled wider at her response.
"Well that's settled then. I'll see you here tomorrow, yes?"
The teapot began to whistle loudly, startling Pea so much that she jumped and smacked her head on the ceiling.
Lana gasped and grabbed her as Pea stumbled, and the two were face to face.
Both blushed. The embrace lasted however, and was only broken when the teapot began to whistle louder. Lana gently sat Pea down and went to take care of the teapot.
Pea watched Lana pour two cups of tea. Lana walked back over to the table, and sat the two cups down after brushing some flowers out of the way.
The two talked until the sun started to go down. Pea glanced out the window at the orange and pink sky, and began to get up.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow right?" She smiled softly at Lana.
Lana rose as well, and handed Pea the flowers from earlier.
"Don't forget these, they'll make seeing a lot easier if the sun sets before you get home."
The two walked to the door, and as Pea left the house she stopped for a moment and turned around. She smiled at Lana. The skydancer looked even prettier with the light dancing off her hide.
"I'll be back tomorrow. Same time." Pea turned around and headed back home.
