She stalks the edge of the forest where the hatchlings have spent every summer's morning, a basket of sunflowers in tow. One by one, she leaves a trail of the long-stalked beauties to end at the foot of a tree, or the sharp of a rock - far enough to drown the yelling and begging. Other days, she takes the form of a particularly gorgeous Harvest Hardshell, with a shell that catches color just as vividly as quartz, and scuttles into the furthermost end of the beach's undertow, away from the watchful eye of the nanny and parent.

Where does Pearl take them? What does she do with them? The imprint of their bones inside of her skin, shifting and growing like tumors with every missing child, suggests the use of foul black magic, but none know for sure. Does it give her eternal youth to end their lives, fulfill some sort of fiendish pact with the underworld, or simply provide her pleasure?

The hatchlings that have seen her true form and have lived to tell the tale say that her wings are coated in the blood of their former friends, and that a ring of their teeth ensnares her head in a crown.
