Shrewd, ambitious, and utterly selfish, Zain was born on the darkest day of the year with a temperament to match. The child of gentle and moral parents, almost no one realizes that he took after neither of them.

Openly Zain is a cheerful, energetic dragon. He always seems to know just what to say at just the right moment, and no one seems to realize quite how sinister that can be. His sister Alina is the only one with any inkling that he's not the selfless person he portrays himself as, and she despairs that he won't use his gifts for good as she does.

Alina and Zain both inherited their father Dior's foresight, but use it completely differently. Zain in his new clan keeps it a secret, and all his fellows who mistrust magic never have any idea why Zain is always in the right place at the right time. He's widely liked and quickly gained popularity, eventually ascending to the lofty title of high priest. He uses his leadership of the priesthood shrewdly, his aims being to extend the reach and influence of the Elysia and in turn his own influence.
