The two nervous interns at his side shivered as they wandered deep through the jungle. Calyx, though, Calyx grinned.

Though he missed his mate dearly, he loved these long expeditions down into the Mire with nothing but two interns to drag along until they were genuinely glad to return and get shot off to Stormcatcher. Some of his interns had even smiled when they saw the half-mad R&D department rolling out new exalt cannon models.

He heard flapping wings, and he roared in challenge as the croakers emerged from the jungle. In the corner of his eye, he saw his two interns jump and cling to each other. With glee, he tore through the croakers, dodging a shadowy blast that hit one of the interns instead as he crunched down on the purple annoyance.

It was only a few moments, but he won easily. One of the interns had fainted out of terror. The other fainted as he saw Calyx, his brown coat and cyborg leg covered in blood. Calyx grinned.

He was ignoring, of course, the fact that Morwyn was going to be so annoyed by the stains.
