Shimmer was born into a family of coatls whose plumage was dull and white. While his family all seemed fine with their pigment less feathers, Shimmer longed to have wings more like his father's. His father, Allen had shinning wings which seemed to glow like the sun. Not the plain white of his own feathers, but a warm and inviting white, but no matter what alchemy he tried, he could not change his pigment-less wings.

So Shimmer left the shifting expanse, determined to find a way to brighten his wings so that they too could rival the sun. He was only met with horror, shunned at every turn by the brightly colored coatls of the Ashfall waste who thought of him as a bad omen who would bring bad luck to their clans.

He spent his time wandering the world, searching for something. Anything.
