Obie is very self-deprecating, but in a way that's full of humor. He laughs at himself and his (pretty constant) blunders, and never takes a joke aimed at him to heart. He blushes whenever complimented and suddenly becomes very interested in scraping little circles in the ground. I worry sometimes that he actually does take things to heart a little more than he lets everyone, or even himself, see, but I know he's got a few close friends whom I hope he confides his deepest emotions with, and so I try not to worry. Not everyone is emotionally mature enough to know how to find their deepest emotions though, and his Neverland-like childishness means he might be within that number.

Obie hatched out of the same nest as Kaflanii, and they're the spoiled younger siblings in the family blessed by the stars. They're treated as children even though they no longer are, and so if they both have (vastly different) maturity problems, their own characters are not wholly to blame. Obie seems to struggle a lot with a lack of talent in any specific area. While his oldest brother is a born leader, his other brother is a musician, his oldest sister is a jeweler/dancer/singer, and his youngest sister is an astronomer, Obie has no job and no apparent passion. The only caln task he consistently helps with is helping Costiel fish. That is to say, he likes to eat the things Costiel fishes, since, like most Ridgebacks, he doesn't like to touch water. Cos doesn't seem to mind bringing him along though, even though Obie's snacking makes his task take twice as long. And at least it gets Obie out of the den, where he spends most of his time wandering around trying to find someone to talk to.

I'm usually hanging around as well, and since he seems to be immune to my usual ability to go unnoticed, he ends up talking to me a lot.

He also tails his oldest brother, DieForelle, a lot. He's his hero; he practely worships him. Die is a good and patient brother and lets him, but he's also got work to do, and sometimes (oftentimes) Obie is more of a hindrance than a help. When he's knocked over enough inkwells and tripped over enough rugs and spilled enough fruit juice on someone (or maybe himself), he's pretty good at calling it a day and dismissing himself. Always with a good joke and a small bashful look of embarrassment. He wants so badly to be useful, you know? But he's having a rough go at it.
