Ciel was a dragon that used to be a well-known mage back in his homeland, often obsessed with the idea of turning items into gold through transmutation -- though his experiments often failed. The marks and scars on his body are a creation of all the times his experiments have backfired on him. They do not hurt him, but they have impeded some of his ability to move as fast as he used to.

He was a part of the same clan that Lumine came from, one of the victims caught in the thievery that occurred regarding various precious pieces of historical writings in their clan. He was not harmed like the Pearlcatcher was, but he didn't feel safe remaining in the sunlit lands that he once called home. In secrecy, he followed Lumine out on her journey while keeping himself hidden in the shadows of the land.

Ciel has given up the life of an alchemist, but he still has a love for shiny gold, so he's working with a Ridgeback of the clan to handle the treasury, though he handles personal needs that each dragon desires to finish their outfit or physical changes. They sometimes have disputes on if the gold is being spent on necessary things, but it frequently works itself out some way or another. If he is asked for help regarding alchemy, Ciel will still happily share his knowledge of the trade, but he refuses to participate in any of them anymore.

He and Lunar are part of a duo that performs a rite at the beginning of the day when the sun rises, and at the end when it sets. At night, Lunar and Ciel sit in front of an altar outside of the clan dedicated towards Lightweaver and Shadowbinder, asking the two for their protection over the clan during the day and night, before Lunar leaves to light up lanterns and stands around the clan as a mixture of the protection from the two deities. Ciel goes around in the morning to blow out the magical fire used to light them, thanking the two for their aid in the night.

I love everything from the way his candles blend with the sundrapes to the layering of dresses to create that perfect gradient. I didn't even know he was double basic until I looked at his stats.
