B I O G R A P H Y

Main Theme: Last of the Real Ones

______ Valence is a dragon of contradictions. He is an assassin, but he is a knight. He is the consort of a queen, but he is a nuisance to everyone else. He is an accomplished fighter, but he is constantly almost dying. He is the son of Edme, but no one has ever heard of him.

______ Valence keeps his story to himself when it comes to the members of the clan. What they do know is that he is Edme's son, but ran away at a young age. He met Cassandra and Klossowski and joined them on their crusade, although he refuses to say what that crusade is. He reconnected with Edme shortly after she joined the clan, but never came to visit, relying on her making infrequent stops in the Southern Icefield. He gives the impression that he has other siblings from before Edme joined the clan, but after her first warning glance at him, he has said nothing further. He is more tight-lipped about Cassandra's story, and all that anyone can get out of him is that he is deeply in love with her and that she isn't as frigid as she seems.

______ Valence is an assassin by trade, working as Cassandra's partner in all things. He can vanish into darkness in an instant, red scales darkening to black with the donning of his crown, and his blade is deadliest when no one sees it coming. He is not, however, a pushover in direct combat, and can hold his own well enough, even calling himself Cassandra's knight. Despite his skill, his luck waxes and wanes unexpectedly, getting him into unfortunate circumstances that should have been easy to avoid and then getting him out in the most absurd and unbelievable manner possible. He rarely escapes such scrapes unscathed, but he seems largely unbothered by them.

______ Valence is, unfortunately, not popular amongst the clan. He isn't an official member, so no one can touch him, and he seems far too aware of that. He makes a nuisance of himself when he's not pretending to be professional at Cassandra's side, particularly in the workshop. Klossowski, his brother-in-law, is a favorite target, although Seven has quickly been added to the list despite his ill humor towards the whole situation. He's not as unbearable as Ember, and isn't nearly as short-tempered as Kyir, so he's tolerable, if frustrating. Cassandra and Edme are the only ones who can reliably rein him in, although Edme seems to pretend that there is no issue most of the time and leaves it to Cassandra to call him back to their lodgings and make him behave.

______ Despite everything, Valence is not a mean-spirited dragon, and often can be found helping members of the clan through troubling times. He's reluctant to do anything that requires much work or emotional investment, but he gets himself involved anyway. He often denies it afterwards, insisting that he's just an assassin, why would he help someone, but underneath those black and crimson scales beats a heart of gold, aching when it sees wounds on others that match its own.
