Etherlight • The Arma Protea

Three clans live here because I'm indecisively torn on where I want to live. They are Wind, Light and Lightning respectively, and all have their own stories tied together by an overarching lore. I've resolved to try and write some lore properly this year which will eventually be found on my FR Tumblr, and of course in dragons' bios.

• All dragons in my lair are depicted as anthro.

3.png The Aeolian
A group of dragons who call themselves simply the Aeolian make their home upon the rising mountains and floating islands which rise above a sea of clouds beyond the Reedcleft Ascent. Distant from the great vortex that howls on the western coastline, these dragons are carried by gentle winds which sweep with harmonic song throughout the landscape of their domain, soothing the souls of many a weary traveller. There is no grand cause holding these dragons at bay; it is simply a place of respite and reflection, sought out by those who need it and chanced upon by others who were carried in on inadvertent winds. In fact, many of the Aeolian’s mainstays were once travellers themselves, opting eventually to settle in and help make the myriad temples, gardens and woodland paths of the their new home as welcoming as possible to any fresh faces, finding fulfilment in helping and guiding others.

The clan’s closest thing to a leadership is Eleuthia, a self-titled ‘sworddancer’ from her former clan, and she takes many younger dragons under her wing to teach them the selfsame brand of swordplay she was taught as a fledgling. This unique blend of elegance and combat has garnered some intrigue from visitors, spreading word to their home clans in turn, giving the Aeolian a small reputation for housing some of the most graceful warriors in the Windswept Plateau, ever standing watch over their carved-out corner of tranquillity in Sornieth.

8.png Etherlight
A clan of dragons living in a network of tunnels beneath a great seaside mountain. In the labyrinthine pathways that run far and wide, those tunnels that skirt too close beneath the Hewn City are known to be hotspots of bizarre phenomena. Principle among these is the Breach: a tear in the fabric of reality which leads to another realm, from which spews forth some of the most jarring and uncanny experiences known to the dragons who dwell in Etherlight.

Tasking themselves with exploring this aberration in space-time, the Etherlight dragons count no small amount of researchers and warriors in their number, aiming to investigate and probe into the Breach in order to uncover its secrets. Yet from beyond the portal are murmurs of something dark and aware in its own right, and more and more dragons return every day with a persisting sickness wrought by the presence, dubbed only the 'Extant', which is assumed to lie beyond...

5.png Residents of the Arma Protea
Those dragons who dwell within the hollow carcass of this great ship - the Arma Protea - are known simply as the Residents. Settled within a shallow canyon in the heart of the Shifting Expanse, this clan is comprised of those who have either stumbled upon the wreck in their travels, sought it out to satisfy their own curiosity, or have been drawn there by feelings of an inexorable sense of longing or purpose. The Arma Protea is, however, no ordinary sea-faring ship: its ancient frame is rusted and ruined not from washing ashore, but from falling from the sky itself. It is a starship - and its origins are no clearer than its reason for now lying derelict on the arid lands of eastern Sornieth.

To the dragons who make the ship their permanent home, many are scientists, engineers and researchers who strive to uncover the myriad mysteries behind the Protea; yet others are stranger still, with the clan being home to many mechanically-augmented dragons as well as full-fledged sentient machines taking draconic form. Strangest of all are the ancient AI who yet remain within the ship's systems, who only just recently have begun to appear and communicate with the members of the clan. They are oddly enigmatic, as if instructed to observe rather than interact, but what little that has been spoken by the virtual intelligence has hinted at the Arma Protea housing much deeper secrets than the Residents had first envisioned.
