Clan Information
It's obvious to any visitor that this clan was once much larger and more prosperous than it is now. The ornate buildings, either repurposed or fallen into disrepair, cracked streets leading to places that were never built, and the general air of age that hangs over the area all contribute to the feeling of a clan that is much older than any of its inhabitants.

If you were to do some research or simply ask around, you would get a classic boom-and-bust story: an underground lake is discovered on the Highland scrub, specifically in the caves beneath Square Toe Mountain.

Opportunists, entrepraneurs, and hopefuls descended and built a town. They stocked the lake with fish and used its water to feed orchards. Money flowed in, being as seafood and fresh fruit are as valuable as gold in a place as dry as this. The town grew, got richer, planted more trees, and stocked more fish. The water, badly mismanaged, began to dry up and as it began to go, so did the clan. People drifted away, buildings fell into disrepair, and everything got smaller and dustier until the
only ones left were the ones who had nowhere else to go.

Of course, that was hundreds of years ago. Things are better now. After so long without use, the water has replenished itself slightly. It's nowhere close to the original levels, but there's enough to safely sustain a citrus orchard or two. Or fish some of the seafood that's been multiplying in the lake since it was originally stocked so long ago.

The descendants of the original inhabitants work and live in modest homes in the shadow of grand buildings rotted with age. There are newcomers as well, some of who came because of the water, but most of whom came for other reasons: searching for something, fleeing something else.

The clan isn't rich and likely never will be, but they get by. They always have.
