Hello! If you joined during a recent window, I would love to give you a dragon, along with a welcome pack of goodies, to get you started. Here's what you need to do:

• Choose any of the dragons I currently have listed for sale. You'll find them in the first post up above, and there may also be others for sale on the last two pages of my lair (look for the little moneybag icon. Dragons without familiars are also usually up for grabs). Some dragons may not be available for the giveaway, but this will usually be stated in their bio.
• Send me a Personal Message (click the little envelope on your dashboard) and let me know the name or ID number of the dragon you'd like to claim. You can also request a dragon by "pinging" me here in the thread (type @ right in front of my name in your post), but if you don't hear back right away, send me a Personal Message.
• All dragons are being given away first-come, first-served, so it's a good idea to give me two or three options, just in case your first choice has already gone to a new home before I see your message
• It would also be great if you "bump" this thread, by making any comment. That will bring it back to the of the front page so others will see it. Thanks! :)

"Edge of the Map" refers to the tradition in centuries past of painting dragons at the edges of maps to denote unexplored territory. On at least two historical maps, this was accompanied by the phrase, "Hic sunt dracones," or Here Be Dragons. I've been using HereBeDragons, or some variation thereof, as a handle on the internet for about a decade now, so when I started my Flight Rising account, it was the natural thing for me to name my lair. But calling my hatchery "Here Be Dragons" seemed a bit silly, since there are dragons everywhere on Flight Rising, so I'm calling it "Edge of the Map" instead.

The permanent names I give my dragons are based on binomial nomenclature, i.e. the scientific name for some bird, insect, plant or animal, usually one with similar coloration to the dragon. Some of the nicknames aren't given for a specific type of animal or plant, but just based on the color or some other feature of the hatchling.

IRL, I have a master's degree in wildlife biology (I studied turtles - SO CUTE), and teach undergraduate biology and environmental studies at a local university. I also write Dragon Age fan fiction, and write and record vocal music. Oh, and I spend a lot of time playing video games and watching crappy horror movies with my teenage son.
