Should I send over the down payment right away? Just want to make sure I got that part right, aha

Down = Reserve, yeah. It basically guarantees your reserve place. If you reserve but fail to pay your down payment you risk being removed from the reserve list entirely and those who pay their down payments will get priority.
I may wait a few days depending if I have the funds to get a Boon. Market prices might change and boons may become less avaliable on the Auction House or I may not have gems on hand to purchase one.
And yes! I will take mixed gem/treasure payments that correspond to my 1 gem = 100 treasure ratio.

@Rowan Hah.. it will all take some time to list them all and get them together *g* Asteria and Hyperion are quite famous and have a long ist of people waiting, but Helios and Nyx should be able to breed soon.. and well, after that, my new pair only has 1 (2 when i have the second mate) people in line then. She's midnight with violet, trying to get a obsidian with sunset mate or, mostly, obsidian /black with fire. Hoping to find the perfect G1 boy, soon.
