TOPIC | Connection Repeatedly Timing Out
1 2
I've been having an issue for the past few weeks now where my Flight Rising connection will stop and result in a screen telling me that my connection timed out because Flight Rising took too long to respond. I can be disconnected for anywhere between one to twenty minutes at a time, and the connection often only returns for about thirty seconds before disconnecting again.

This is the only website giving me this problem; Tumblr, YouTube, ChickenSmoothie, Neopets, and all other websites I use work just fine and load instantly even while I'm waiting on my Flight Rising connection to return in another tab.

Even when my connection returns, it is extremely slow and images take several seconds to load. The issue has been making it extremely difficult to do my dailies now as what used to take me five or ten minutes can now take up to an hour to finish because of the constant timeouts.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure if it should go in Help or in Bugs.

Edit 1: For clarification, I'm using Google Chrome.

Mine has been slow, slow, slow and on and on......
I think it started for me when they changed servers. But, it is much worse now.
Terrible slow now. Very frustrating for sure. It is not my computer as I work in IT and have all the bells and whistles.

I'm also having this issue, also using Chrome.

@FerrousFarron @Muxie First, please whitelist www.flightrising.com and www1.flightrising.com with your antivirus. Second, manually clear your cache, disable duckduckgo if you have it and log into FR from an Incognito window to see if that helps. Third, enable some form of adblocking to see if that helps. Otherwise, write back with more information so someone can help or the devs can log it as a problem with your specific version of Chrome. I'm currently using 71.0.3575.98 on a Win7 with DSL over wifi and I'm not having any issues. If you don't know what version of Chrome you're using please go here. Switched DNS servers? Disabled all your add-ons/extensions to check for conflicts? Blocked Windows tracking/updating to see if they're hogging the socket again?

Have you checked the Gem MP for Gene and Breed scrolls before buying an AH listing from me ending in 5g?
@Nightwind Thank you for the response!

I currently cannot do those at this time --- not for any bad reasons, but instead I'll give a bit of an update to my current situation.

I use the Internet from two different locations/IPs: one from home, and another from my college apartment where I stay during the week.

While these problems have persisted over the past couple of weeks on both IPs, there has suddenly been what seems to be a change in the situation. While at home over the weekend, I continued having this problem. However, over the past few days while I am using my apartment's connection, I have had no connectivity issues whatsoever. Since I was having issues on this IP before, I don't know if it's something that just corrected itself over time or if it's a problem with my home connection. (Because of this, I don't think it's my antivirus).

I'm heading home tomorrow, so I'll give more updates then, after I see what happens. If I'm still having issues with my home IP, I'll do what you suggested and see if that helps. Thank you again for the response!

After about a week of testing my connection between home and school, I can now confirm that the issue only happens while at home. The site works fine while my laptop is connected to my apartment wifi a few towns over.

I have attempted all of the fixes you've suggested, but so far nothing has solved the problem.

Here's some general information that will hopefully be of use in finding the problem:

Browser: Google Chrome 72.0.3626.109
Operating System: Windows 10
Device: Laptop (have not yet tested the website on mobile)
Connection type: Standard home wifi connection/wireless
Antivirus: Avast

I'm having the same problem since yesterday or a couple days ago. It always says that the page is unresponsive, and if I pick "open in another tab" the page simply won't load.

Tryin' to keep me underground,
But did I mention we were paving the way
for the new breed of bad seed?

@FerrousFarron

Thank you for doing that. Actual experimentation helps a lot. At this point the only thing that's different is your home connection. This is a bit beyond my ability to diagnose but I can give you some things to try before asking at a more tech-oriented help site or your internet service provider.

Have you checked the statistics on your router? What sort of packet loss are you getting from the outside world to your router? Over 3% is a good reason to call your internet service provider and complain.

In your routing settings do you have any of the websockets blocked? Depending on security patches/updates whatever the coli is using could be blocked by the router which would block FR but not other sites that use other sockets.

Try using a wired connection at home (I keep a short cable for this purpose) to see if it's some sort of wifi interference. The coli needs a fairly robust and unbroken connection when it first loads up. If the cable works then it's time to start tracking down interference:

Hope this helps!

edit: I was reminded--have you tried a different browser? Firefox is an option and I have a report that it works. No clue what is going on with Chrome. I'm on wireless, Win7 and Chrome 71.0.3575.98 and the most I've had has been a slight delay in loading when my lair/den total goes above 300. That seems fixed since the maintenance this morning, though.

@Dieter

It's difficult to tell exactly what your problem is since you didn't include even minimal information like what browser/device you're using. The good news is that a quick google search for "page unresponsive" turns up that it's a Chrome/Firefox issue.

Well, this is embarrassing.

Perhaps all that was needed was to reset the router.

Around 7:15 this morning, something happened (lights were flashing outside my window but there was no noise so I have no idea what it was) and the power in my house flickered on and off multiple times for about 10 seconds. The router, being plugged in, was affected by this.

Since then, the site has now been running flawlessly with little to no lag.

Huh.

Problem solved I suppose!
