Chapter 0 - Lost Document
There was a frantic scurrying coming from
Lotus’ office, small nails clacking against the polished floor. “Oh no, oh no…” She whispered, shuffling papers from her table and opening every draw, before slamming them shut out of disgruntlement. “Where is it?!” She cried out, alerting her co-worker,
Soot. The dark grey coatl sighed once, lifting herself from her low couch. She approached Lotus’ office and peered in, appalled at the mess the younger dragon had made. Her brows furrowed before she inquired with a low voice, “Lotus, dear…Are you having some trouble?” Soot’s tone was uncaring, like she was asking out of obligation, in truth she just wanted to find the source of the noise and silence it.
The crimson dragon laden in gold whipped her head around when her name was mentioned, crest flared and sweat visibly beading on her forehead. “Yes! I can’t find the defence documents!” Her chest heaved as she panted slightly, her tongue flickering in and out, the lanterns that were strung on her wings jingling slightly. “Lotus.. Why don’t I have Itzel come take a look? She is my personal assistant…” Soot suggested, not delaying a moment and leaving the room. You can hear a sharp whistle and a pounding of claws, then the appearance of a
green and orange skydancer. “Yes Lady Soot?” She asked, not making eye contact. “Help Lotus find the defence report. I can’t stand the noise she’s making..” She groaned, returning to her lounging couch and laying back down, beginning to preen herself. The skydancer nodded and entered the Office, “Miss Lotus! Have you tried looking in the library?”
Lotus stared at her like she asked the most ridiculous question, dumbfounded. “No.. No I haven’t tried that.” She admitted, and scurried off towards the library. She passed by several guests who greeted her, which she nodded and smiled quickly, no time to idle! Down the hall and around the hall, she quickly made it to her prideful library. It was massive, large bookcases to the roof, filled to the brim with books, scrolls and parchments from all around Sorineth. There were a few dragons occupying booths and tables, faces buried in tales of bards and history books of Arcanist. The library had soft lanterns decorating the shelves, glass bottles filled with embers that constantly burned, they smelt slightly of charcoal. Lotus quickly found who she what she was looking for, the staff area. Old Reports were often documented and processed here, so maybe it was prematurely placed here. Sitting back on her hind legs, she started to filter through the filing cabinet. By sheer luck, she did find the missing document. “Yes!” She cheered, only to be hushed by everyone in range. Embarrassed, the coatl lowered her crest and skulked out of the library, mouthing the words ‘sorry’ over and over.
Back in her office, it was now neat and tidy, Itzel had taken the initiative to clean up and re-file all the documents the frantic coatl had made. “You found it?” she chimed, smiling at her as she closed the last cabinet. “Yes! I did, thank you for cleaning all this up, i..I know I made a big mess.” Lotus sighed, smiling up at the secretary. “Do you need any more help, Miss Lotus?” She asked, and the other dragon shook their head. “No, thank you Itzel.”
Sitting down at her office, her eyes scanned over the dates and names of all the dragons that had visited the Resort in the last 6 months, looking for an obscurity. She caught wind that the Resort has had some shady dragons ‘visiting’ her Resort, illicit drugs being passed around and other small crimes being committed on her grounds. If public got whiff of this, it could be bad news for business. Page after page seemed clear, before Soot spoke up again. “If a criminal entered our territory, why would they show up on the report? They would not have ‘checked in’ Lotus.” She stated matter-of-factly. She was right of course, that’s why she was the overseer. Lotus frowned, “What can I do?” She looked up at the other coatl, who flicked a stray red feather out of her face. “Well…I have a contact from my own colony, perhaps we should seriously consider a military for-“
“No! We are a peaceful clan, a place of calm serenity and relaxation…”
“- Okay, a defence unit. A few dragons to just patrol the Resort, a bit of bulk.” Her eyes flashed, remembering how prominent her previous home was when it came to invaders. She watched Lotus contemplate this, when she added “It would make the Resort safer overall. What if marauders decided they want the Resort for their own? We are on prime property and have a pretty good hold on the holiday market. Why wouldn’t some dragon want this for themselves?”
“..Okay.” Lotus finally said, “Who did you have in mind?”
