Entry #3
Scavenging for the little one was easy enough, but Ezulie made a face as his own tummy grumbled. Plants were scarce, and the seaweed from earlier had been awful. He kept away from the mushrooms that grew in the dark soil, something telling him he would regret tasting one. He had been lucky enough to stumble above a honey bee hive, able to harvest some sweet honey comb to give. His stomach was greedy but he did not wish to take the bees entire supply. He left half of the honey comb in place and once more continued to scrounge.
They had found no true shelter yet, Luna often sleeping on his back as he walked. The young mirror was getting heavy, a third of his size and soon she would have to walk on her own. Ezulie was certain that once they were able to find a decent patch of forest, he would dig them a nice burrow with two chambers to rest in.
It was mid day of the third day of wandering when he spotting a large grouping of trees off in the distance, and behind it a thick carpet of green for at least what seemed like a mile. “Well, Luna, it looks like were in luck”
“Luck...?”
He nodded towards the growing mirror who now walked beside him, close enough to feel her brush against his fur, which, thankfully for a small stream that had been emptying into a stream, now had a nice gleam and softness to it. “see those trees over there..?”
Luna looked forward, sniffing the air before nodding. Clucking her young as it trying to say 'tree' but gave up with a disgruntled snort.
“Trees mean soft ground, and safety, I can have us a burrow by tomorrow night if i have enough energy, and we wont have to walk all day, we can even-” something moved in the corner of his vision, and he stopped in mid trot to scan the surrounding area. His eyes narrowed as he took a good whiff of the air. Large boulders by the beach could easily produce cover for an enemy and Ezulie`s eyes narrowed as he lightly nudged Luna`s side “.. keep walking..” He took kept walking, aware of the tension form the confused mirror.
“Danger..?”
The tundra nodded “Maybe...” His flat teeth ground against each other anxiously and he kept looking back. Luna suddenly gave a shriek, stopping in her own trot, looking at something in front of her. Ezulie spun his head to look, fur puffing up in reaction to make himself look bigger.
Two centaur were coming at them, spears in hands and were running at full speed. There was no way to fly without leaving Luna, she was too large now to pick her up and fly with. “to the water! WATER!” he urged Luna to the water, keeping her behind him as the centaur closed the distance, chucking a spear that clipped one of the tundras wings. A second thrown spear missed and imbedded itself in the sand.
Luna shrieked again, noticing the damage to Ezulie`s wing, hesitating to go deeper into the water. He glanced back “Go! Deeper! They can't follow you there!” She gave a wimper of protest but moved deeper, diving under the gentle waves. Ezulie turned back to the centaurs that now had primitive swords. They looked thin, desperate for a kill even Ezulie's size. He reared and gave a good swipe to one on his left while the other sliced him deep across the shoulder as Ezulie came down from the first attack.
Fanning his wings knocked the second centaur down and he lunged, snapping at him with his tusks and ignored the yells from the centaur. The kill was easy after that, the first frail starving centaur had been killed by the first blow. Just as quickly as it has started, it was over and Ezulie stood panting over the two bodies. Luna came form the water, concern on her face as she came to nuzzle against him gently “Hurt” He took a breath and nodded
“Yes.. but ill survive”
