I use a wacom, I have used it for at least 6-7 years and it's still in top condition
(I can't really say what model it is since the sticker on the back is long gone lol but one of the intuos for sure) Though I paid around £200-£250 for it. What I can say is that if you wish for a good product that actually last and does not break instantly, you should try put some more money in it. Though, I can understand it's difficult when the parents are the one paying! :(
I took a quick look at wacom's webpage and they got a small tablet for £89.99, though I have no idea how good it might be. But so far wacom has only been a good experience for me.

I heard somewhere there was a brand that was cheap and reliable, however the reviews were very mixed and I frankly can't recall which brand it was :/

Wacom is GOLDEN. If you can, get one of their intuos versions,
not the bamboo. I've had my Wacom Intuos for like 5 years and it's still perfect condition, I use it almost every single day. I'll swear by it.
And if/when you get it you should draw them a thank-you picture on it! For being lovely and buying gifts. :)

Some time ago when I used Tumblr at a daily basis, I found 2 post about cheap and good working tablets: Huion and Monoprice
Here you have the webpage of
Huion, and the one of
Monoprice. I really ignore how these behave, but the general review I remember from Tumblr was both are quite good for their prices.
I myself own a Wacom Bamboo, dirt cheap from Costco Mexico, it is 5 years old and works pretty fine! The drawing area is too small but does fine for my minimal needs xP

Yeah, sorry to repeat what everyone else has said, but Wacom has a big name for a reason. I use their Intuos and love it so so so so so much. Maybe you could ask your parents if they (or somebody they know) could offer you a summer job?
