This is a challenge that was first created by @Dreamnorn, which can be found [url=http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/qnc/1963225/1]here[/url]. The main goal of the challenge is to breed 100 hatchlings with a single female dragon, as detailed in the rules: [quote] 1. [b]This challenge begins with the selection of your matriarch.[/b] To pick one, she must fulfill two requirements. The first, obviously, is that she has to be biologically female. The second is that she must [i]have never been bred before now.[/i] That's it; anything else goes! She can be from your clan already, from the Auction House, have any breed / color / gene combination, be immediately RTB or not -- the sky is the limit. The one thing I recommend without a doubt is that she'd be a dragon you'd permanently keep, because you're going to have her in your hands for quite some time. [LIST] [*]If you find that you're tiring of your matriarch's look, feel free to scatterscroll her, breed change her, or alter her genes as much as you'd like. The only thing you cannot do is replace her with any other dragoness after the challenge begins. [/LIST] 2. Select the first mate for your matriarch. Literally the only requirement for him is that he's biologically male and thus can produce offspring with her. [LIST] [*]Note how this step says "first" mate. This is because [b]your matriarch cannot breed with the same dragon twice across the duration of this challenge.[/b] [/LIST] 3. Breed them once they're both RTB and you have sufficient space! Make a note of how many children they've had and keep it. Maintaining count is key. I'd also recommend making a note of who the mate was, so that you never accidentally "double-dip." 4. When the hatchlings are born, you cannot just immediately exalt them or sell them over the Auction House. On the contrary, [b]you must ensure every hatchling gets a long-term home.[/b] This could be anything from becoming someone else's permanent dragon to being bred at least once in someone else's lair. Either way, they need to be kept by someone for a while before being exalted or exalt-trained, if ever. If you want, you may keep any hatchlings you get as long-term residents of your own clan. [LIST] [*]If you end up selling someone a hatchling and they change their mind and either resell or exalt it, then you are not held accountable for it; after all, the matter at that point would have been out of your hands. However, it might be wise to not sell that person another hatchling for the duration of the challenge. [/LIST] 5. Repeat the process from finding a new mate to sending the hatchlings off to find long-term homes until all 100+ hatchlings have found a place they belong! [/quote] Now, the reason I have this in the Creative Corner, rather than Dragon Share, is because there is going to be a story and lore attached to this challenge, which I will be revealing through this thread. If you happen to like what I've already written, and would be interested in reading more, I have two pinglists that you can ask to be placed in; one for story updates, and one for updates about Umbra's hatchlings. As a [s]bribe[/s] bonus, users on the pinglists will get [b]first dibs[/b] on the offspring of Umbra, the matriarch. These dragons are guaranteed to have at least a little bit of lore already, which can be expanded upon or ignored as you wish. Offspring will be kept until they mature and then given away, for story reasons. The only stipulation is that you claim them with the [i]intent[/i] to keep them; if you later decide you don't want them anymore, then it's perfectly fine, as long as you kept them for at least a little while. Two dragons reclined among them--a Mirror, the source of the chuckling, and a rather miffed looking Skydancer. "We were simply caught off guard, was all. It happens to everyone." "If that's what you want to keep telling yourself," the grin was still present on the Mirror's maw as she started to dig in. "But the next time you get caught off guard like that, there probably won't be another dragon to bust you out." A snort from the Skydancer. "We won't have to worry about that, because it won't happen again." "Mmhm." The Mirror didn't speak again for several minutes after that, focusing on her meal instead. The Skydancer watched her for a little bit before turning his attention down to his moth and beginning to eat as well. About halfway through, the Mirror suddenly lifted her head, flashing a grin full of bloodied fangs at the Skydancer. "You know, I didn't [i]have[/i] to stop and help. I could have just gone on my merry way and left you to your fate." The Skydancer instantly froze at the sight, both he and the longneck watching her as she spoke with wary gazes. "So why didn't you?" "Call it a moment of weakness." Her tongue slid out and around her lips. "But that did still cost me my valuable time--you wouldn't happen to be expecting to get out of paying me back in some way, would you?" The Skydancer's crests started to flare as his muscles tensed. Throwing his wings out to make himself appear larger, he let out a snort as his eyes started to glow. "If you think that you'll be able to just [i]rob[/i] us--" "Oh no no, I've no interest in your treasure." The Mirror waved a paw back and forth as if to clear the air of the accusation, then rested her head upon it. "I'm interested in something else entirely. Your magic." There were a couple blinks as the Skydancer tried to process that, his wings slowly beginning to fold back up. "Excuse me...?" "This is likely common knowledge where you're from, but Mirrors function best when they're in a group with others." She let out a tiny sigh. "I've been alone for I don't know how long now, but it's starting to drive me crazy. I'd ask for [i]your[/i] companionship, but I don't want to detract you from your [i]epic[/i] quest...." "..." The Skydancer tucked his wings in fully as he mulled it over. "And having hatchlings [i]won't?'[/i] "You will be under no obligation to stay and care for them," the Mirror purred. "I will be perfectly content with raising them myself." The Skydancer glanced down at his moth. "...Very well. When will you have the nest set up?" "It's already ready," the Mirror replied, blithely ignoring the look the Skydancer gave her. "I'll show you where it is when we finish here." The Skydancer walked up to stand beside her, glancing down at them himself. "I hope you weren't expecting more." "...I was. But these will do." "Then we are finished?" "Yes." With a toss of head, the Skydancer turned away. The Longneck joined him, and the two left without another word, leaving the Mirror alone with her new progeny.
