I've never read or watched Harry Potter despite having most of the books and films. However, I caught chance of a job opportunity! Me, being the poor gal I am, said yes. I just really want that $25. I was given the job of creating an Occamy sculpture! My sister was out with a friend to a con of some sort and crossed the Harry Potter section (or something). This unnamed friend saw a little Occamy sculpture and had the sudden urge we all felt at one point to buy it. From what I heard it was poorly crafted for a high price, so my sister recommend commissioning me (lucky me, because I'm desperate for cash)! A little later she contacted me through my sister's phone and here I am. For people who don't know what an Occamy is: I'll be posting my progress in the post below! Any tips or words of advice would be lovely. uvu

The eyes are not even like an Occamy, r.i.p. I'm just tired of ripping out the sockets and doing it over again. They look so tired. ;;

It looks amazing so far! I would love to be pinged for further progress and the final product! if you don't mind me asking, what type of clay do you use (assuming the material is clay)?

@BeardedDragon123
I can definitely ping you! :o
The material is super sculpey; specifically beige original. It's a type of polymer clay that you bake. It has a very soft texture and doesn't get everywhere when kneading it (which makes it one of my favorites to work with)! It feels a lot like plastic when it's finished baking.

@BeardedDragon123 I think I fixed the eye issue by going in with my art tools (a dull knife and a sewing needle) and carefully cutting the top lid back. Using more clay I gave the eyes a more almond shape by layering and trimming. I'm not going to add the finer details to the left side yet because I don't want to misshape the face. I just have to tackle the monstrosity on the right side... I'll start by cutting around the drawn in "socket" and insert a little ball to act as the eyeball. I like to cut the small orb in half so I don't have to carve out as much to make it fit without warping. You'll get this weird looking mess after padding it and prepping it for molding. It looks lopsided from the front but I'm going to fix that (hopefully). The clay dot is added to the forehead to let me know where the middle is with a glance. It helps me make things more symmetrical.

@BeardedDragon123 Last post for today! I smoothed the clay out around the eyes and tried to make everything as symmetrical as I could. I noticed one side is curved more inwards than the other, creating the illusion of it looking at you. I'll have to tweak it more around the mouth to push the illusion to the other side. It sounds weird now, but it might make sense later. Here's another very blurry picture depicting the side I have to work on more. My camera just won't focus today.

It looks great so far! I'm familiar with Sculpey clay (I have way too much and don't use it often enough, lol) but I've never tried making a larger scale sculpture. I haven't done any claywork in about a year so I'm probably horribly out of practice though.

Ah, many thanks!! ///

I started sculpting stuff a long time ago (maybe when I was 7?), but I didn't sculpt that many things. I honestly played with old sticky tack I found at school and made a plethora of things that never lasted, haha. I started to get more into it recently, with many unfinished projects to show for it. uvu

You don't need that much for sculpting except clay and your hands.... and maybe a knife or toothpick. I've been doing everything so far with some foil, wire, a small knife, and a sewing needle. If you ever want to get started, just go to some office supply store. They usually sell some inexpensive air-dry clay that takes paint and marker real well.

I'll add you to the pinglist! Thank you for showing such interest! :o

@BeardedDragon123

Thank you! It seems I never have enough sculpey lying around. I just use a lot of foil as filling and hope for the best, haha.
