DIARY ENTRY: I arrived at the forming a tad late. It was a favorite way to irritate the others, to have the ability to roll with the flow of time, and still chose not to arrive when asked? Yes, they found it most unnerving. Especially Flara. She gave me a heated look, from where she floated off to the side. Fire knew first hand how toxic I can be. As soon as a flame is lit, it's like a timer. It's seconds are numbered. Every spark is temporary, every torch goes out. There was nothing we could create together that was better than the sum of our parts. It only burnt up. She always hated being especially weak to me. I just returned her a smirk and a wink, ignoring the bitterness in her eyes, and went on to admire her work so far.

Flara had worked with Earth to form the lava in the center, and earth rolled and rolled it, cooling the molten hot ball with layers of rock. When I arrived Water stepped up, adding his element to Earth's to create rich soil. The group turned to me, and I sighed. Adding my own element, the brown bowling ball before us began to sprout. Earth grinned as green grew towards the the sun Light provided. Like changing this rock from brown to green was his achievement, and not mine.

Everyone stepped back and stared, and let Air move forward to breath life into the world. All others could do nothing to make a planet livable without her life giving air and... I admired her fiercely. I could make rocks turn to dust, send water to the clouds, make a flame grown cold. Time pushed all elements to the brink. Not Air. I could never wear her down. As time went on, it never ate away at air. Not like it did to the others. She was a force against my own. I always viewed myself stronger than the everyone. But I'd never be bested by her. She just danced away, untouchable to time itself.

She turned and caught me staring. I tried to hide the color in my cheeks but I fear she saw. She didn't speak to me, none of them did. I was a curse. A ruin to their elements. They didn't appreciate the way I could bring the things they made to rubble. But Air- Er- Rhodandthe- did offer me a smile, which was more than anyone else ever gave me. And for a moment... I didn't feel so alone.

It was foretold centuries prior by the Mayans that next day would herald the end of an era, which was the reason for this group’s coming into being. The cultist leader, Mason, had obtained the last crystal skull a month ago and prepped for their ritual to come. Referring to many ancient cultures’ accounts on the end of days, they refined and determined what was needed for their own ceremony (refer to OE-13NOV2012 entry for additional details). The members all gathered at a cavern that was situated right on a ley line. In the center, thirteen pillars sat on a dias, all carved from a massive stalagmite. Mason moved purposefully through the crowd with the crystal skull held aloft for all to see. As he rested it on the remaining empty pillar, the circle of thirteen was now completed and in the distance I felt something become undone. Far into the deep bowels of the cavern system were a set of monumental doors. The seal, which had once been unbreakable by any human means, shattered at the lightest touch of air and doors to Xibalba opened slowly, the grind of stone upon stone resonating throughout the chambers and tunnels back to the where the cult was gathered. The silence was palpable and stifling, even for myself. While I recall the time when those doors had come to be, I had forgotten their existence for I never thought any would be so foolish to try. Perhaps part of it was because I did not want to remember what was imprisoned here (refer to HE-BlackSignal entry). Despite this, I followed all of them down where the doors lay splayed open. Beyond the threshold is darkness. One of the recently promoted initiates, John, was told to step forward with a crystal orb as his final test. However, before he could cross the entrance, the darkness itself stretched out and yanked him in. Murmurs of concern or panic erupted and echo of it only made it worse until Mason shouted for silence. That silence felt like an eon on its own. Broken only when the figure crossed over the threshold from the darkness. At first, I thought he was silhouetted, but it was simply made of darkness itself. It had no eyes but a mockery of a mouth through which it spoke along with echo inside everyone’s head: {Xsssss… Pleased to meet you. I am Legion. Nothing fancy. Just Legion. Xsssss…} When Mason tried to ask it’s purpose, the entity shrugged jerkily: {I am a lost story made flesh and I will consume everything. I am Legion. Xsssss...} I should have known it would happen. It’s happened before, but I could do nothing but watch as that thing of darkness grew large and exploded. Tendrils of that thing reached everywhere. None of them could escape. It drew them all towards that door, one by one they disappeared while the one called Legion stood passively nearby. My tenet as a recorder is to never interfere. I am to watch and record no matter how I feel about the event. However, as I was about to break my cardinal rule, a group of thirty individuals arrived. I doubted them and feared that they would become fodder, but they surprised me by rushing headlong into a fight with him. Their weapons, which were different, were somehow able to harm Legion. They were not all invisible and some were taken by the darkness, but slowly they pushed him back while a group of five focused on the doors. I do not know how they did it. I’m still in shock myself for how closely we avoided an apocalypse, but the doors were shut and sealed again. The tunnels leading up to the cavern were all collapsed as soon as they exited. They remained in the area for the next couple of weeks, but eventually dispersed back to their lives. No one but myself heard the voice beyond the doors: {Xsssss… I am the Black Signal. Let me in. I am the dreamer’s virus. Let me in. I Am What I Am. Let me in. I am Legion. Let me in. Let me in. Let me in. I have arrived in time to watch the cult prepare for their moment.

At first, I thought he was silhouetted, but it was simply made of darkness itself. It had no eyes but a mockery of a mouth through which it spoke along with echo inside everyone’s head: {Xsssss… Pleased to meet you. I am Legion. Nothing fancy. Just Legion. Xsssss…}

When Mason tried to ask it’s purpose, the entity shrugged jerkily: {I am a lost story made flesh and I will consume everything. I am Legion. Xsssss...}

I should have known it would happen.

P.S. - Against my usual method, I have changed names in an effort to prevent anyone from retracing these individuals’ paths. The memory is more vivid than ever now and I will not forget. Cannot forget. Some things should never be unburied...

The entity Legion in the entry above was inspired by a character named John from the MMO The Secret World (rebranded now as Secret World Legends after the developer decided to change all the gameplay but still very lore heavy), but the story is my own creation on the 2012 doomsday event.

I hope you (or anyone) enjoys reading it because I had a ton of fun writing this~ ^ ^
