Hey there! So, I’m having trouble coming up with a creative clan name. To be fair, most of the clan names on here are very cliche! NOT throwing shade on anyone’s clan name at all, I realize how difficult a good one is to come up with. I just see so many “whispering winds” clans in wind or “scorched sands” in fire that I would like to contribute something interesting instead. (If you have the clan name Whispering Winds or Scorched Sands I’m SORRY it was pure coincidence and it’s still a nice name I’m not attacking you I promise [emoji=familiar heart size=1]) I actually had come up with the name Hoarfrost Hollow, and I really liked it especially since I’m Ice Flight, but I just found out through forum search that it also belongs as a hatchery name from two years ago. I might keep the name but now I’m slightly less enthusiastic about it, since it’s technically been in use before. [b]What are your techniques for coming up with a good clan name?[/b]

LMAO that’s been my technique... this one I came up with is the only one I’ve thought of after having no name for a solid 4 years. But now I’m developing clan lore and so I feel like that requires a clan name

Well, what I always do is brainstorm and wrie down whatever that thing makes you think of, after that, think of something that thing makes you think of. For example, Ice, makes you think of a icicles and icicles makes you think of a spear. So, you then go back to the initial list, and take a descriptive word that correlates to the main subject, so if we take spear and, lets say, frost. You could make Frost Hunter hatchery because you can use spears to hunt. You know it’s yours since its your creative thought proscess. :)

Well it’s a good idea to write down ideas, especially since I write down lore ideas for my dragons anyways :) and I think I get what you mean by seeing connections.
And with what you said, I WOULD consider “Hoarfrost Hollow” my own since I came up with it by myself, but just the fact that someone else also came up with it individually before me just makes it feel less genuine, to myself personally, I guess.

My clan name is Florabrisa, which is apparently so unique that googling it takes you right to my clan haha... It's not really that creative of a name though, I just took the two main themes of my lair (flowers/wind) and made it into a pretty word, with Flora meaning flower of course, and brisa meaning breeze in Spanish.

Hoarfrost Hollow is a really nice sounding name! It definitely has the perfect coolness for an ice lair. Honestly it feels like it could be a new coli venue haha. I definitely feel you about not wanting to share a name with something else, but since it's not even another lair, just a hatchery, I think it's fine! Googling gives me Verglas as a synonym of hoarfrost! I've not seen that word used on this site before, so that could be a good one to start with if you want something more unique? If you wanna keep the alliteration, something like Verglas Valley could work? Maybe you could look into specific geographic features if you want to find a new jumping point, and see what icy words may fit well there!

You could also try and find like, what brought all your dragons together? Like was there some common theme to them all aside from being in ice that made them want to be in this lair specifically? What are the values of your lair, what do they work toward? That sort of thing might be able to jog ideas for what your group of dragons would wanna call their home!

Clan of Miresa, the island that summons females due to an unknown phenomenon.

Miresa was actually a demon that had possessed an unborn hatchling (eternally) in my old lore, when I was in Ice. When I moved to Wind, I moved because of the more positive aesthetic, which I felt suited me more. So, Miresa went from being a really dark character to the actual island that my maidens live on.

I don't really remember how I came up with the word Miresa, as it has no real associations (besides some kind of moth, apparently) - but I've always had a knack for coming up with random words, so there's that I guess.

I came up with mine because I kept naming my progen's kids after characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream so I just kinda turned it into the Midsummer's Breeze clan lol.

I don't have a name for my clan, but I do write fantasy, so I have to come up with lots of weird names that could fit.

One of my favorite things to do is to take a word that fits the place I'm trying to name, and write it backwards. Like the word “Cold” would become “Dloc”, and the word “frozen” would become “Nezorf”. With the right word, you could come up with a a really cool word, one that’s totally unique and just sounds right.

But if you're not looking for a fantasy name, that's fine too. If you have a cool name that's really meaningful to your clan, but it’s already taken, you can look up some synonyms for the words. Sometimes synonyms can be cooler than the original word.

Florabrisa is a beautiful clan name, and given how I love learning languages, I think it’s amazing that you utilized something different! Also Verglas Valley sounds so beautiful! Really, wow! The only thing though is that my clan is hollowed out into a mountainside, so architecturally “valley” wouldn’t make much sense. But you have some really good tips, thank you! Or sometimes a name will come to me in a dream, maybe I could use something like that. @RyeKnight Makes sense! I like that clan name :) just the right amount of both unique and relevant @MysticalScribe You know, I actually did look into backwards words at one point, but didn’t really consider that when looking into a clan name. I remember some cool ones like universe: esrevinu, memory: yromem, control: lortnoc, etc. That’s a really good idea for a clan name, thank you for your thoughts! :)
