Hi everyone! No, I'm not back. But it's been six months and I miss the chat group, so I thought I'd check in with y'all. I'll stop by throughout the month to check up on the thread, so I will see any replies. :)

*waves to all the dragon writers!*

General Introduction

In Nanowrimo 2013, Micahjaguar started a writers' chat thread in the Wind forum. After Micah and I left Wind, we created a writers' chat in the Creative Corner every month until we went on hiatus from FR in April 2019. We wanted to (a) meet new writers! and (b) keep in touch with all our Windy friends. (Hi Windies! We still love you all!)

Some purposes for this thread:
  • Talk excitedly about your current awesome writing project!
  • Whinge about your current project which no longer seems so awesome and you don't want to work on it any more but YOU WILL anyway. Because REASONS.
  • Show off snippets of your writing
  • Cheer your fellow writers on as they write!
  • Commiserate with your fellow writers as they complain about not writing, or about not being happy with their writing
  • Ask other participants to pick one of your dragons for you to write something about in the dragon's bio
  • Show off dragon bios
  • Admire one another's dragons and new hatchlings from time to time (because this IS Flight Rising)
  • Any other writerly activities you want to chat about

"Dragon Writers" is a reference to this being a chat on a dragon site; there is no requirement that you write about dragons in order to participate. (Okay, there really aren't any requirements at all).

This is intended to be a general chat thread and not a critique group. Now, it's absolutely fine for a writer to post a link to their work and ask people for feedback and/or criticism! But it's also fine for people to post bits of their writing just to show off and with no desire to have it critiqued. And it's fine if you participate in the thread without ever sharing anything you write, or giving feedback on anyone else's writing.

Unless a writer solicits critiques, please only respond to their writing with supportive comments (or don't respond at all).

Also, this is a chat thread: we're here to interact with one another as writers. Showing up to say 'I haven't read any of the previous messages and am completely ignoring any conversations going on. Please come to my thread/read my writing' is unlikely to work out well for you.

I was just admiring this PC of mine today ... so sharing her. And sharing her bio: [b]She already had her name and wasn't sure she wanted to leave the lair that housed her parents in deep hibernation. However, Lairspirit Emberglo promised her respect and quiet in the Moonlit Nyyt Weyr den, so she finally agreed to move. A small bat shyly approached her to ask if he could bond, promising to protect the sad lady as best he could. She named him Rowyn. He was pleased. @LadyRowyn Ah, I had forgotten about this! That said, I run the Coffeehouse Project, which is a hub for lore. I'd love to feature this thread in our affiliates if you're okay with that!

@SadariEvenstar Hihi! How have you been? Are you still living in the countryside?

@Rexcaliburr Feel free! If you or anyone else wants to keep the Dragon Writers' chat thread alive, you are welcome to launch a new post each month and use the ping list, too!

@Emberglo Oh, she's striking! I like how the wing-rings mix with the peacock.
~

So it's been six months! A lot has happened!

I have published my tenth book: The Princess, Her Dragon, and Their Prince! It had a successful launch and has already outsold some of the books that were published before it, which is nice. n_n

Also: ten books! Back when Maggie and I started running this thread in 2013, I had published zero books. And here I am now. Weird. A good weird, but weird.

Let's see, what else. Cancer has not yet been cured, but my partner is doing fairly well under the circumstances, enough so that I feel comfortable leaving him on his own so that I can visit friends and family. I just came from seeing family for the first time in two years, so that was great. Going to try to get back there sooner next time.

Micah hooked me on a new mobile game, Love Nikki: DRESS UP Queen, and I've been playing a lot of that. Also still playing Pokemon GO: I really like the new Rocket-stop hunting mechanic.

I noticed that FR added Ancient Breeds while I was gone, but it wasn't enough to lure me back. I don't know if I'll want to play again. But I did want to catch up with the writers, so I'll check in on the forums for this month. :)

@LadyRowyn I do. I even have chickens now. It's nice. Congrats on the books! I play a ridiculous amount of Love Nikki myself. I still get on here and do dailies and stuff, but I haven't done much with it for a while. I think a lot of my attachment to the game is when we used to all trade stories and hatchlings and stuff like.

@SadariEvenstar Mine too! The part I liked best was when we used to intertwine our lair stories together, with traded dragons and cross-lair stories. :D

I have unfortunately not been writing or even RPing lately. I'm looking forward to doing NaLoWriMo again in November and picking back up with some dragon lore. I do have a couple dragons that will definitely be at the front of the line for lore! Hektir Unnamed In non writing news, I finally moved my horses to a new barn after years of dreaming of doing so. I haven't really been able to ride consistently (if at all) since late 2012 because I haven't been at a barn with an indoor arena. Between too much rain, cold winters, and hot summers...it's been rough! But they're moved now and I've actually been able to visit them 5 days in a row and I'm looking forward to getting back to the riding lifestyle. My dogs, however, are less than impressed that I've been "abandoning" them more than they're used to. :P
