I like challenges, so I decided to do the legacy challenge for all eleven flights. I started Wind and Lightning; then Nature and Fire, and now I'm on Shadow and Plague! What is the Legacy Challenge thing?
The Legacy Challenge is a breeding challenge where you start with a gen 1 basic dragon (usually by hatching an egg) and try to breed the most awesome and/or high scoring dragon you can in 10 generations. The official rules are here: Legacy Challenge Thread (or see the Updated Rules thread). There is also a "Royal" variant, seen here: Royal Legacy Challenge Thread.

Wind Founders I couldn't wait to get started, so I bought an unbred wind gen1 from the sales forums. He ended up with a slightly pretentious name. I decided to focus this legacy on spirals and skydancers; spirals because they are wind's native breed and skydancers because they seem to me like they'd fit in well in wind territory and yet they offer some challenge to breed into. The first consort was therefore a spiral: I set the bloodline's goal as a Denim iri / Emerald stripes / Rose circuit Skydancer like this: The backup plan if I can't breed into skydancers (or can't breed into circuits) is to try for a Denim bar / Emerald Stripes / Rose circuit Spiral

I set the bloodline's goal as a Denim iri / Emerald stripes / Rose circuit Skydancer like this:

Lightning Founders My lightning founder also came to me as an unbred gen1 from the sales forums. I decided to give her all of line vaguely electrical-themed names. I'm not sure I remember how I got to Arc + cell for her name (well, cell = battery) but it works well enough. Her mate was chosen for genes rather than breed - I think maybe he just caught my eye in the auction house and I couldn't resist. I'm really hoping for a male from this one:

Wind Legacy: Generation 2 The Wind legacy started first but promptly fell behind Lightning because of the "common" (vs. plentiful) consort. Windsten and Glazel made up for it by giving me three eggs, and random.org cooperated by selecting the double-gened spiral hatchling as heir! I decided to go with old-English names for this legacy, sort of in line with "Windsten" even though that isn't a correct spelling for the real name it more-or-less sounds like. Meet his heir, Alden: His sisters didn't do so badly either, taking up a gene each. This will inevitably drag Wind even further behind Lightning in schedule, but after all, it's not a race it's a quality challenge. Thus, the beautiful Ashleigh:

Lightning Legacy: Generation 2 Arcell and Ohm produced two eggs, and their heir looked less like lightning and more like a storm: Her brother was perhaps better colored, but had no genes, cementing the Lightning legacy's plan to stick with the first-hatched child as heir (instead of rolling separately as in the Wind lineage). With the heir already sporting one of the line's goal genes, I already found myself limited to only that gene in that slot. Still, there's a lot of ripple-current out there, so I snapped up a ripple-current noodle lady and...then realized that for some reason, I had confused the gender of the heir. I ended up exalting the first spiral (a royal ripple / navy current / jungle crackle), renaming my heiress, and buying a new consort. Lightning Legacy: Generation 3 Coil and Amp also hatched two eggs. This time I was a bit more careful to be sure of the heir's gender. He really was a male, and was given the name Faraday. The lightning legacy is already triple gened in the third generation! His brother was not bad in coloration, but only snagged one gene, so I was lucky with the eldest again. The mate this generation was snatched out of the battle royale for 7K, and boasts the goal genes and good coloration. She came with the name Raya, so she gets to keep it. I could make some sort of stretched claim about it being electrical based on the "Ray" part maybe but honestly, I just don't see the point in spending for a rename of a consort. Wind Legacy: Generation 3 Alden and Ashleigh produced a massive 5-egg nest - bonus point! - that couldn't have hatched until after the battle royale was over even if it had been laid before the last lightning nest. It was so worth it! Random.org did me the immense favor of picking the only skydancer in the nest as the heir. Ripple/current/basic is nothing to sneeze at either. My old-english names search gave me Camden for him. His siblings were mostly speckle/eyespot/basic, but they had some high scorers among them. I really hope I can sell them to other legacies or at least someone who will keep them a while. With a bloodline goal of an iri/stripe/circuit skydancer, I really needed a skydancer with iridescent and a tert but there wasn't much more to it than color choice. The new mate is named Chelsea, and while her tert isn't doing much for her own looks, I'm hopeful that it'll move the bloodline in the right direction. (Edit to note: Chelsea was sold on the AH again after breeding, and renamed Itzil. The new owner clearly thinks she's great - look at all the fancy apparel, and a custom accent!) Lightning Legacy: Generation 4 Faraday and Raya gave me three beautiful ripple/current/smoke hatchlings - well at least two of them are beautiful ;) The heiress is Anode. Just look at that beautiful rose smoke! Rose is a goal color, but in the secondary rather than the tertiary. Still, this one could be hard to exalt; I really hope she sells instead. Her siblings, as I mentioned above, are both triple gened: In terms of goal progress, this generation was basically treading water, but I'm not complaining. Still, I'm hoping for some color progress at the least with the next one. I'm pushing it a bit on breed or genes though: Here's hoping I pick up that circuit! Wind Legacy: Generation 4 Camden and Chelsea gave me two eggs. Frankly, both hatchlings were disappointing. Random.org chose the younger to become heir, and I named him Edmond: He has the same genes as his father, and his colors are further off the goal rather than closer. His sister was not notably better, though, so this one is all on the hatchling RNG and not Random.org - not that they aren't pretty enough, aside from the breeding goals. Edmond's mate is Earline.
