A question for the fandragon fanatics. Do you prefer colours and genes that match the character, but aren't necessarily "pretty", or do you prefer more aesthetically appealing genes/colours that may not match the character as closely? Weird question, I know, but I'm curious, and also struggling to design fandergs.

Accuracy, most definitely.
They're fandergs. They're meant to represent the character,
and if you compromise that to make them "look better", then they aren't a true fanderg imo.
Now of course there comes a point where accuracy is too difficult/not possible,
and to that degree I believe aesthetics can be prioritized,
but unless the character is human that usually is pretty rare.
At the very least, that's the philosophy i try to follow for my fandergs,
and while they aren't usually my favorite looking dergs, I'm still quite proud of them.

I try to mix a bit of both! If the dragon doesn't look good to me, I'm definitely not going to want to keep it, and it can be hard to make things the most accurate

What if you create a scry that's perfect (or almost perfect) for the character, but you just hate the way it looks?

I prefer accuracy. I even try to find a dragon of a specific Flight so that their eye color matches that of the source material.

True, but I'm having trouble finding a scry I like that actually somewhat resembles the original thing.
