whether it be a singular dragon's backstory or the origins of the entire clan, lore is a very important staple of FlightRising. by creating your own story, you distinguish your clan from the rest of your flight's; it allows you to show off your creativity!

personally, i'm a huge fan of reading, and writing, lore. in fact, i have an entire forum of my clan's lore here.

so, whether it be dragon or clan lore, please, share your stories here! i'd love to see all your creative ideas, and i'm sure other people would, too. feel free to post a link, a dragon, or simply write out a summary of your ideas!

@Raytini
to begin with, Toshi's lore is so fascinating. it starts off so innocent, so hopeful, and then drops right into the despairing ocean as he becomes lost and afraid. the end is so surprisingly dark, it certainly caught me off-guard, but it works so well. the contrast between that innocence and then (accidental) corruption, impurity, and sin... I feel that it truly shapes the character Toshi will become. he has struggled, he has witnessed the blood on his own claws, and he may not be so innocent and joyful anymore -- in fact, I would not be shocked if he came to resent the Flamecaller rather than rejoice her, cursing her for "blessing" him with the bloody flames at his claws.

overall, really beautifully-written lore. the story shocked and fascinated me; I had not expected it to turn so dark, but I love that unexpectedness. it may benefit Toshi's story, however, to elaborate on how he begins to feel about his flames, or himself, after the incident, as well as what he becomes. does he retain his innocent joy, or is he compelled to become the assassin he is today?

when I finished reading Sienna's backstory, my first thought was: wow. talk about unique! the fact that she was once a statue is insanely creative, and fitting. her coloration makes her look just like stone. I really love the idea that she became alive due to a demon's curse. however, I was left wondering who Pansey was. I would assume it is another dragon either in your own lair, or your friend's, but it might benefit Sienna's story to briefly explain who she is (unless I just missed that part, hahaha!). overall, though, Sienna's lore is unlike anything I've ever read before. creative ideas like yours really inspire me to write more!

as a whole, I think your greatest strengths lie in your use of vivid imagery and compelling, dark stories. you have a serious talent for setting the scene and creating an image for the reader to see, and explore. your vocabulary use also sounds very refined in professional, making your writing a delight to read. I'd say your only weakness may be your grammar, but only occasionally. for the most part, your writing is perfectly executed. however, the dialogue sometimes stops abruptly, becoming slightly confusing to the reader. I would slow down the dialogue a little, but that's really the only con I could find, and it is so minuscule, it is hardly noticeable. your writing is incredible, and I adore the imaginative stories you are able to come up with. keep up the good work!

@svnbeams thank you so much! I’m really glad that you like it. The demon is another dragon in my lair, second to last (my official lair ends at Bill Cipher so in that sense he is second last)
Thank you for the criticism! I know my grammar needs work and I am hoping to improve on that in the future. Thank you for the thing about the dialogue as well I’ll definitely take a look at that to try and make the story flow better, I would never have noticed that myself so I’m really grateful you pointed it out.

Thank you so much for reading them, I will probably ask for your opinion on some more writing if I get around to writing it haha. Your criticism is really useful and i’m glad you liked the overal story!

My random progen, who was exalted and restored (his lore reflects this) Baria lived for the rush of battle. Nothing mattered more to him than his service to the Gladekeeper. At least, that was what he thought at first. He believed he was doing the right thing by raising his sons to become fierce warriors in the war against the Beast Clans. He believed that Sofi had wholeheartedly believed in their cause. He had trained his whole childhood away, mastering sword techniques by the time he was an independent adult. That was when he left his original home in order to find a place he could protect and call his own. So, when he had stumbled upon Sofi, he felt that he found the start to the perfect home. They spoke easily at first, Sofi seemed interested in him and he felt that she would make a good battle partner. If only he knew that she sought a completely different future. Sofi had been over-joyed over the hatching of their two sons. It was a whole new side to the pretty jewel-green dragon that Baria was delighted to see, even if he kept his true feelings locked deep inside for only he himself could find. He was a proud father, it was the start of a powerful new clan that would give Gladekeeper a force that no Beast Clan could defeat. He would raise his sons to become prestigious warriors like he had been raised. All foes would bow down to their sword skills. However long he spoke of battle tactics and training, he noticed Sofi grew more and more bored and distant. He could tell she wished for a more domestic life, wanting to live in peace in their beautiful jungle home. He promised her they would settle down in peace after they did their part in the war. She seemed to have accepted that and followed him into battle. He felt invincible with his family at his command. To this day, Baria regretted what had become. He pushed his family too far, hiding his fear and grief as their sons were struck down before his very eyes. He could only keep fighting beast after beast to drown out his pain and loss, while Sofi raged at him for sending their children into battle, falling apart from her own raw emotions. He was helpless. It was his fault, and he knew it. He knew no other way to bury his grief, only to keep fighting. Keep fighting, even as Sofi broke away from being his mate, broke away from being his battle partner. The blood of his children was forever stained on his claws. He remained behind when Sofi left him, believing him unfeeling and cold. He was not frozen to the world, but he was raised to never show his real emotions as his enemies would take that to their advantage. He felt as strongly as any other dragon. He laughs without a sound. He breaks inside when he grieves. He smiles internally at all of the innocent still left in the world. But, in all other eyes, he was but a stone statue. Broken, battered, and scarred, Baria returned from the war. He vowed never to return to the battlefront after the loss of his children and Sofi. He was relieved of his duty, and honoured for his service, but that did little to soothe his broken heart. No matter how he tried, he could not outwardly speak his true feelings. The feelings of regret. He longed to apologize to Sofi, to make amends for what he had done. But he had no words. His pride trapped his true feelings. He met with Sofi upon his return to the clan, he tried to find the right things to say, but Sofi stared through him as if he were nothing but air. She was deaf to his apology, still too broken by their tragedy to find it in her to forgive him. He knew that he did not deserve forgiveness for his actions, but he could not help but expect warmth from his first love. He missed her kind smile and soft voice, but this dragon who glared coldly at him was no longer the same dragon. She had changed, became stronger, while he still dwelled in the frigid shell of himself. A disgraced warrior. He decided that even if she never forgave him, even if things were never right between them, he would remain in the clan and find purpose training young dragons who wished to become warriors, rather than forcing them into bloodshed. He would make things right by becoming a battle trainer, a mentor, and a teacher. It was all he knew how to do. Yet, he would never throw young dragons into battles that he knew were too big for them like he had done with his own family. Never again. He would become a protector, not a leader. It was a sin he would carry for the rest of his life. Sofi and her new mate Sunset kept their distance from him, but he knew that was only natural for the pain he had caused. It was enough that the leader of the clan-- a powerful wildclaw Halepensis—had accepted him back and welcomed him as a true member of their clan, allowing him to find a new start, perhaps even a new purpose. He would find a new love and relearn what peace life could bring if only he gave it a chance. ---------- And his daughter Skoll Skoll was brought up with the quiet guidance of her father's swordsman skills and her mother's scornful words of their clan advisor, Sofi. She grew into a well practised swordsman, impressing most of the clan, even her father. It was not long before she was asked to become the chief guard if the clan. She was proud of the skills her father taught her, but her devoted loyalty to her clan was tainted by her mother's grudge against her father's former mate. Since she hatched she was sensitive to the feelings of those around her, feeling the deeply hidden guilt and regret her father buried whenever he was around their gentle clan advisor. Her mother held strong resentment, burning under the surface unlike her father's chilling remorse far below the surface hr showed to other dragons in the lair. Jealousy clawed at her mother seeing the two around and when Skoll was old enough, she questioned their feelings. Her father said little, saying there was nothing he could do about it so he would not bring it up any longer, but her mother had gladly filled her head with her dislike of Sofi, saying how she could never forgive any dragon who broke Baria's heart the way it was, and that Sofi had never forgiven him, even though they lived in the same clan. Skoll knew that she should feel grateful, in a way, that her father and Sofi broke apart. If they hadn't, Flora and Baria might never have paired up and she would not have been born. Yet, Skoll could not deny the bitterness that struck her tongue any time she spoke with the clan advisor. She respected the older dragon out of duty to her clan, but she knew if she had her way she would make her mother proud and her father whole again by casting out the pretty nocturne. Each day she practised her sword, she kept those thoughts close to her heart, biding her time until the day she can put right the wrongs done to her family.

I used to actually have a lair of lore dragons + clan lore that I was super proud of, but I couldn't keep up with it and kinda lost inspiration so I ended up exalting them all in favor of a lair that centered around dragons who are meant to represent various songs that I love. This was two weeks before FR announced that lair tabs would be added, so I'm kind of salty ;; but my boy Ilyaas here survived the purge: I love him. <3 His personality is actually meant to closely mirror my own.

As for clan lore, I don't have much other than my group is somewhat of a shady bunch (As my tag says, "A place of diversity, a place of conspiracy.") and that each dragon has a specific title and role. I've been working more on developing the lore of singular dragons before the entirety of the clan, but I'll get to it :P Here are a few of the dragons I actually have lore for; The Hunter Shawshank is an optimistic, excitable, honorbound and skilled wildclaw dragon, and one of the three top-tier warriors in the clan, along with Santos and Bead. He also serves as a hunter, working feverishly to feed his clan on a daily basis. Shawshank has one daughter in the clan, Zuelim. However, her specialties and interests are rooted in some very questionable magic. She spends her time getting her claws on trinkets and spellbooks, usually alongside her best friend, Chernobyl. As for clan lore, I don't have much other than my group is somewhat of a shady bunch (As my tag says, "A place of diversity, a place of conspiracy.") and that each dragon has a specific title and role. I've been working more on developing the lore of singular dragons before the entirety of the clan, but I'll get to it :P
Here are a few of the dragons I actually have lore for;

The Hunter
Shawshank is an optimistic, excitable, honorbound and skilled wildclaw dragon, and one of the three top-tier warriors in the clan, along with Santos and Bead. He also serves as a hunter, working feverishly to feed his clan on a daily basis.
Shawshank has one daughter in the clan, Zuelim.

The Conjurer
Zuelim is Shawshank's daughter, who shares her father's passion for serving the clan and finding glory and gold on the battlefield. However, her specialties and interests are rooted in some very questionable magic. She spends her time getting her claws on trinkets and spellbooks, usually alongside her best friend, Chernobyl.

The Alchemist
Chernobyl is Aegi’s daughter, a social, friendly snapper who specializes in alchemy, especially that of a more twisted and taboo nature. She likes to experiment with questionable magic alongside her best friend, Zuelim.

The Arbiter
Aegi is the first non-progenitor of the clan, a snarky and witty bogsneak who handles disputes and territory. She is close friends with Naga, and is often considered one of the clan’s leaders as opposed to the matriarch’s mate, Zeus.
Aegi has one daughter in the clan, Chernobyl.

The Illusionist
Little is known about the illusive Illusionist’s past. He refuses to speak about it. In fact, he barely talks at all. What the clan does know is that he is invaluable, an unforeseen master of magic and illusions.

The Defender
Santos is a quiet and reserved fae dragon who serves as one of the three top-tier warriors in the clan, along with Bead and Shawshank. His role as a healer and defender has been invaluable to many battles.
Santos is mated to Bead, and has one daughter in the clan, Dawnstrike.

The Ensorcelled
Dawnstrike is a strong, proud, talented and elegant fae dragon who holds a warrior princess-like status in the clan as the daughter of Santos and Bead.

The Thunderous
Dixon is an inventor leaning towards mad scientist. His favorite means of giving life to automatons are through electricity. Namely, lightning. The sounds of thunder are always emanating from his workshop as he develops weapons and machines of chaotic delight.

The Esteemed
Sorell is a curious and innovative bogsneak who serves the clan as a scientist, scavenger and alchemist. She has a fascination with puppets and effigies, and always brings her scavenged findings to Ashberry and Sariah for appraisal and preservation.

The Appraiser
Ashberry is an irritable, stubborn Coatl who serves as the clan’s appraiser and trader, and works alongside Sariah, the treasurer, to conduct business within and with other clans. She can often be seen scouring the marketplace and auction stands for the best deals.

The Treasurer
Sariah is the clan’s treasurer, who oversees business within and with other clans, alongside Askrain and Ashberry. She is an ecstatic, happy dragon with a love for gold and apparel. She does, however, often contribute to the clan’s constant destitute state with her persistent insistence on buying more clothing. (Although, the clan does end up being fashionable.)

Most of my dragons have lore, so I won't bother picking out a few. Instead, I'll share my clan lore:

Once, in the Wandering Contagion of the Scarred Wasteland, two Tundras came together to create a clan. They were hopeful and devoted to their deity, and immediately had three hatchlings, each more Tundra than the last. Soon, other dragons came to join them in their family, and as it turned out, the female Tundra wasn't interested in the Male Tundra, even though he loved her. His heart broke when she kept warding his advances, and he died while she realized her love for her clan was universal, and that she would never breed again to show favoritism.

There was consequences to her love, however. The others thought of her as weak, and she was overcrowding the lair constantly with an abundance of dragons who didn't give back to the clan. A Fae took over the lead of the group, and swept out those who were greedy and useless. She formed an army to protect the clan, but that too became an unsafe strategy, because they broke up into different groups, and the infighting started. Death was abundant, and she was eliminated brutally to make way for the Snappers who wanted to control everyone. Those that didn't prove indispensable were killed

A coup happened shortly after, making the clan weak and vulnerable. Everyone in the Wasteland could see how incapable they were of staying together, and offed to help take in dragons who needed homes if the clan was disbanded.

Spirit and Wayfinder quickly gathered what was left of the clan and made them swear fealty to the lair and the story. This worked well for the most part. The clan worked together, and the only incident was from a Pearlcatcher, who created a poison and used it on the clan. They refused to throw him out, because as loyalists to the Plaguebringer, they could only find fault with him using it on them. They sealed him and guarded him before too many of the clan died.

Alchemy came into the clan soon after, and many of the dragons were drawn to it. Several of them mutated, which saved them from a fae who was desperate to impress the wayward Pearlcatcher, and recreated his poison to finish off the clan. She could only reason it had to happen to the clan, or he wouldn't see it happening. She wasn't caught for several months, and those who hadn't mutated or come from those who mutated were quietly killed in the night. She created the Fae Brigade to "protect" those that were left and to cover her own misdeeds as she moved about the lair, but her second in command found her out. She was exalted dishonorably, the poison and its recipe destroyed. The Pearlcatcher was released upon the promise he would never return.

After the Pearlcatcher left, there was a dark period that forced Spirit to lead his Plaguebringer clan to the Tangled Wood in the Firefox Bramble of the Shadowrealm. The other Plague clans were anxious from the utter destruction that was being caused, and he took his family to a place where they could learn to be a peace with each other.

Spirit, being a leader of actual strategy, found a way to bind the remaining dragons to the clan until their lifespans were over or they wanted to leave for personal reasons. At once there was a celebration, welcoming new hatchlings into the clan and allowing them to pick their own name and clan before they became adults. Usually quickly following that the young dragons were celebrated for finding their place and work in life. The dragons that had already been there had first choice on jobs, but the young ones had enough space to find a way to express their true joy in whatever job they picked. Each flight was given the full experience of their elemental celebrations, brought together by dragons who loved to celebrate the lives of all their clanmates. No one was left out, and no one was unequal.

For now, the clan is under the impression they are cursed by their own history. Many of the dragons are marred in some way, twisted and marked as a piece of karma that needs paid for. It will be a long time before they accept that they have been forgiven for the mistakes of those before them.
