Automate the production and distribution of the beverage, of course. The Spire was already crawling with golems and other automata that aided the draconic workforce. But there were problems, as there always are. If any spillage happened during the process, the hot coffee would quickly render the golems inoperable. And other employees with higher clearance kept stealing their experimental subjects! Okay, actually, the other employees just took their machines back since Rosie usually took them without asking, but [i]still.[/i] The plan wasn't going to work this way. He was closeted up in his "workshop" for days while a bunch of inexplicable and slightly unnerving sounds and smells leaked from under the door. Finally, he emerged to show her... It was a dragon made all of glass, carrying in his belly - well, it wasn't coffee, not exactly. It was something fizzy and sweet. But that stuff was just as good as coffee at boosting the energy! [columns][img]https://imgur.com/AyAXLTo.png[/img][nextcol][indent][size=3][b]"He can fly his fizzydrink anywhere it needs to go! It tastes [i]really good,[/i] Rosie, you have to try it! It's been keeping me going for the past week while I fine-tuned everything. Didn't need to eat or sleep or anything!!"[/b][/size][/indent][/columns] Thus was the first BottleCap created. Vlad invented several flavor variations, as well as variations in the shape of the BottleCap itself. After all, BottleCaps the size and shape of imperial dragons could transport much more than one shaped like a spiral. At first, the others were skeptical. How tasty could something be when it's already been carried in a dragon's belly? Yuck! But Rosie wasn't deterred. This was the one solution to the growing problem of coffee machine maintenance (and sabotage by [i]some Spire denizens)[/i] and she was determined to make sure she never had to clean another coffee pot again. [columns][size=3][b]"Step right up and try some of Rosie and Vlad's miracle of the age! It's a full meal in a bottle! Twice the caffeine of coffee! You'll never have to sleep again!!"[/b][/size][nextcol][indent][img]https://imgur.com/WiAUdWr.png[/img][/indent][/columns] The BottleCap sodas soon proved to be a rousing success all over the Tempest Spire as a substitute for coffee. So much so that Vlad could hardly keep up production in his little workshop! They got their very own factory floor to make more, plus an army of golems to increase their output! It was Rosie's dream come true!!! What neither Vlad nor Rosie predicted - though perhaps they should have - was that these BottleCaps were still real dragons, even if they were made of glass. Real dragons with real opinions, and some of them were not at all pleased to be deployed all over the Spire as a living soda fountain. Some BottleCaps escaped into Sornieth. The now BottleCap Inc. is, officially anyway, unaware that there are dragons out in the world with BottleCap lineages. It's probably a good thing Rosie and Vlad don't know the extent to which their creations have spread; or the new and unusual combinations and flavors that have cropped up in the absence of regulations and standards. [img]http://i.imgur.com/595bwIn.png[/img] The BottleCaps first designed by Vladimir came in only a few varieties. [b]Clear glass bottles[/b] came first, with some variation in the tints. But soon thereafter, he began to produce [b]blue, green, and brown[/b] glass from his workshop. There is some debate whether this is purely aesthetic, or if the colors help to protect the BottleCap's contents. Or, some say, to warn of the potantial hazards contained within... At first, Vladimir tried to make BottleCaps who could convey coffee, the beverage of choice in the Tempest Spire. But those first BottleCaps instead produced a fizzy stuff Vlad named [b]root beer[/b] since it reminded him of a fermented drink his Longneck familiar told him of. Further experimentation gave way to a variety of types and flavors of beverage; everything from [b]cherry, grape, and orange[/b] drinks to what Rosie swore was [b]wine.[/b] The original BottleCaps, whether by purposeful or unconscious arrogance on Vlad's part, looked and even acted like [b]Spiral[/b] dragons. He made more variants after Rosie complained: [b]Snapper[/b] BottleCaps came about; [b]Bogsneaks[/b] when Vlad learned of what happened with Baldwin's experiments; [b]Pearlcatchers[/b] when Vlad got an idea in his head of the pearls being useful as stoppers to contain the fizzyness; and, when demand began to exceed output, [b]Imperial[/b] BottleCaps. The glass bodies of the BottleCaps first appeared segmented and blocky like dragons with the [b]Wasp[/b] gene, with filmy [b]Bee[/b]-like wings. As Vlad refined his techniques, glittering [b]Crystalline[/b] and [b]Faceted[/b] glass appeared in the lines. Finally, [b]Shimmering Iridescent[/b] forms came from the factory floor, looking almost identical to normal dragons. Except, of course, for their hollow Capsule bellies. Occasionally, some BottleCaps are hatched... empty. Their bellies are hollow, but their bodies do not produce anything to fill that cavity. Some empty BottleCaps are content to remain this way despite the wariness of their fellows, but many substitute the natural substances with unnatural ones that they add. [img]http://i.imgur.com/595bwIn.png[/img] Out from under the watchful eyes of their creators, BottleCaps have developed their own culture. They mix and mingle with normal dragonkind easily, for it is in their nature to be gregarious and sociable. They bring an effervescent cheer to their clans; a tireless drive to be both useful and liked by their lairmates. They have a tendency toward mysticism and a penchant for melodrama that brings all eyes to them. Even so, most BottleCaps would never consider hurting anyone, even if their pranks and jokes are not always funny to all concerned. Due to this fondness for attention, many BottleCaps dress extravagantly when they are able. Fine fabrics in bright colors are their favorite, especially when those colors accentuate their Capsule bellies and show them off to best effect. Unyielding apparel like armor is not commonly seen, for BottleCaps are made of glass, and such materials run the risk of damaging their bodies. BottleCaps are no warriors, fragile as they are; nor does magic run in their population by design. Those hatched outside the workshops and factories might inherit such powers from their kin, however. The puzzling beings to emerge during the Night of the Nocturne, creatures that are not as they might seem, are also common companions of BottleCaps who are, themselves, more than meets the eye. Failing that, often a particularly vain BottleCap will prefer a familiar that coordinates well with their belly color. The only hard and fast rule is to maintain the impression that these BottleCaps are dragons made of glass with liquid in their bellies. XXY and XXX dragons are common because they aren't hard to find, but matchy XYZs are perfectly acceptable [b]as long as X and Y are within the same range.[/b] In this instance, "range" refers to a selection of colors adjacent to each other on the color wheel that can be easily categorized together. There are, obviously, many colors of Real Actual Glass. The ones listed here were chosen because they are immediately recognizable. There are many colors on the wheel that look better on some genes than others - especially as crystal/facet has the tendency to darken, and iridescent/shimmer to impart unexpected gradients. All this lends to the color guidelines for BottleCaps to be rather subjective.
