This is Layla. I got her somewhere around two years ago, and immediately fell in love with her. She's one of my finished lore dragons, and has some of my sadder, darker lore. Here's an excerpt:
Quote:
Things took a turn for the worse when Layla was pushed off to a new clan with a strict hierarchy, of which Layla was at the bottom. Dragons were separated based on "worth" and "usefulness" and only permitted to interact should the leaders deem it necessary. As Layla struggled to get used to the new environment, she met a young male Spiral who treated her not only as an equal, but even as a superior for her hardships and impressive abilities - though he was technically several tiers above her in the clan's rankings. He would visit her in the night, speaking to her of all manner of things, and in time Layla would bear his children - a momentous occasion that quickly turned sour as the others of the clan learned what had happened.
Infuriated by the Spiral's affections for a lesser dragon, the two were separated, and Layla was ordered to surrender the hatchlings to her leaders so that they would be rehomed with "more fitting" parents. Finally having something worth defending, Layla fought them away from her babies as best she could, but was ultimately struck down. The two hatchlings were swiftly taken, and later Layla would discover that one of them had not survived being separated from her at such a young age; a fact that devastated her to the core.
Layla never saw her living child or the father again.

This part of Layla's lore was inspired by the fact that one of her kids had been exalted unnamed, and if I recall correctly, the father and "surviving" child were both in dead lairs. I don't mind exaltation, but when a child is unnamed, I feel the need to try and explain it in the lore somehow (usually with death, because I am predictable and also horrible).
I hadn't looked into Layla's family in a long time, but today, I was sharing her and decided to check again to remember what they looked like. The named child has since been exalted, having had three children of her own. And the father...
...was for sale.
I can't express how unexpected that was. I've had Layla for two years, and this dragon was never available. Yet, somehow, I managed to look at him right in the 7-day window of him being sold, for fodder price no less. Not only that, but he was never bred again - he's only ever had those two kids with Layla.
Everyone, meet Coil.
I don't have any apparel plans for him yet, but boy, am I glad to own him! Layla has never moved on, despite me wanting to set her up with someone for a while now. I'm going to have a great time writing new lore and stories for these two! I might even breed them again - triple Midnights are not in short supply, but they'd have some fun lore, if that would interest anybody.
I'm still in shock that this happened. It's not even the first time - I had a similar experience gathering up my triplets, Alec, Ghost, and Pluto. Though to be honest, this was even more random chance than that was.
I can't wait to figure out how these two reunite!
