I've really lost interest in this game the past few months. I only come on to feed dragons and maybe check the forums. I'm thinking my lair might need a make over. But I've had some of these dragons for 3+ years...how do you know when it's time for a purge?

And as a bonus, which of my dragons would YOU purge?

I feel an urge to boot dragons when I'm running out of space for new ones and fodder. I'm very sentimental so I rarely boot oldies, but sometimes it reaches a point where I don't have any outfit ideas for them and they're just sitting there naked or under a skin or something... That's when it's time to boot imo (even though I can't bring myself to do it, haha). My general rule is 8-digits, no nice accent or outfit plans, and easily replaceable by more interesting ones get the boot. Anyways, your lair is very colorful and well put-together. Nothing wrong with a bit of hiatus!! I've had several months at a time when I only came on to do dailies and feed my dragons. I eventually regained interest and started participating on the site again. I think a lot of people are like that.

When I know it's time to get rid of a dragon is when I'm scrolling through my lair and avoid looking at a dragon. If I click on it and look at the dragon and the overall reaction I have is 'eh' then I know I should get rid of it. I've purged dragons that I've spent two gem genes on! Just because I was bored with them and how they looked and didn't care enough to update them.

But yeah, try just going on hiatus first without feeling 'guilty' or upset that you're not interested in the game rn. Forcing yourself to be active will just make the situation worse, I think. Your dragons will be waiting for you when you're ready to come back!

I tend to do a mini Purge when my lair gets full and I forget I have dragons in the back of my lair or I can't think of/loose interest in writing lore for dragons.

But taking a break and going on a short Hiatus might be the cure you're looking for, as FauxFox has said, there is nothing wrong with taking breaks when you loose interest in FR without feeling guilty or upset. I've taken time when I only logged in to feed my dragons and gather food and came back weeks or months later to find that my interest was renewed with the site and I found dragons I would have purged enchanting again.

I'm doing a small purge atm - though not sure how it'll go, most of my dragons are too valuable to simply exalt and selling may take time. I want to narrow it down to 100 again, if possible.

I constantly purge and go through phases.
I don't even really have a dream dragon and to be truthful I just saw one that MIGHT qualify as such, but the only reason a lot of the dragons I have I have kept are due to me liking their "concept" (so art + lore + personality + meaning behind dragon) or because of digits.

I see so many really nice dragons every day in the AH for cheap that it is all too easy for me to cycle through dragons.

Also having a matching skin or accent has grown to be important for me as well.

If you purge any dragons that are 6 digits or less, let me know.

MY RULE OF THUMB: If I can't figure out what to do with the dragon, if I can't think of lore or art or enjoy looking at it. Get rid of it.

If there is a dragon you are unsure about getting rid of, try coming up with some lore or redressing it to give it a fresh look.

When I fall out of love with a dragon’s colors is when I boot them out, I know I have a TON of dragons without apparel, but I don’t have the time to really sit and think of outfits for every dragon in my lair. Besides that, I don’t role play anymore, or really make characters for my dragons anymore, so I don’t really see a point in buying random apparel unless I see something that will work with one of my fan dragons, or one of my very few character dragons. Basically with me, the dragons without apparel are NOT unloved at all, just... I don’t really see them as dress-up dolls.
