No, Gaolers are pretty new to Flight Rising, here's the update page for your answers.

No, they haven't- in fact, many breeds have been added since the site’s beginning! Coatls, Nocturnes, and Bogsneaks I know for a fact have been added in over time.
Ancient breeds are, lore-wise, archaic dragons that have been long sequestered from the rest of dragonkind, only recently resurging into the modern world. What this means gameplay-wise is that they can't be dressed, have a more limited gene pool, and can only breed with dragons of the same breed. Art-wise, they're a way for the FR staff to release new dragons faster and create more "out-of-the-box" designs. :)

Ancients are kinda new. They're different because they don't wear apparel and can only breed with dragons that are the same kind as them, BUT they also get crazier genes that add huge parts to them, like your dragon Mochi has those big pink spikes. Right now Gaolers are the only Ancient breed, but there will be more eventually.
