Does anyone else hate it when the Auction House is cleared of a rare item and then the next person who lists them item does so at a ridiculously high price?

I just want to buy some items, not wait around until the price falls to a normal level again.

@fishspeakers yep, this is exactly how light sprite/sunchaser jewelry prices got so high suddenly, one day all the auctions at 2ish million expired and the next person to put one up set it at 7million. Then everyone followed suit.

I know they are old/retired/rare etc but such a price hike is crazy, gradual increases like whats happened with the arcane and fire holiday stuff I completely understand but that was just... ugh XD

People can do whatever they want, and if someone actually buys an item at that price, so other sellers follow suit, that's just how it works.
This isn't the first example I've seen on pet sites with in-game currency where someone puts up something valuable at a ridiculous price just for trolling, but someone else actually buys it without complaint.

@Niverdia

Well I'm not saying it's wrong for people to list items at high prices. Just annoying for me personally.

And I've put stuff on the AH before for what I thought were ridiculously high prices, and they've sold before. It seems like people will buy anything.

It's like reverse undercutting, except instead of dropping an item's value by thousands upon thousands, they're increasing it.

Not sure which is worse, really x__x.

If you have a ton of treasure, you can do this yourself too. If you have something you want to sell for a high price, just buy out all the listed ones, and start listing them at a much higher price. It's a **** move, sure, but it rakes in a ridiculous amount of treasure lol.

The result of such a tiny economy, I guess. My first love in any game is the AH but this one can be both volatile and easily manipulated so it's hard to make a safe guess on the actual worth of something. This is particularly true of Skins, I've found. .-.

It's not exactly artificial though? Artificial inflation would be if the item was actually plentiful and people just agreed that it was worth 7 mil despite being relatively common.

Light sprites are rare. Maybe not 7 mil rare but as more users come to the site the ratio of light sprites available to users who want them will continue to grow and the price will therefore skyrocket as the number of people willing to sell theirs grows smaller and the number of people who want one grows larger. Did it happen maybe faster than it would have thanks to people buying to resell? Maybe. But it probably would have happened regardless, that's just supply and demand.

Yeah, I hate this even from the seller's point of view - often I don't know what something normally sells for, so if I want to sell something that's currently spiking, I have to keep relisting for slightly lower until the price gets down to something people are actually willing to pay.

Then again, yeah, sometimes people probably are willing to pay the really high price, so maybe that makes up for it.

It's a simple logic of offer and demand. Of course if there's only one of a thing in the AH, the price will go up.
Even if the community think it's worth 4mil, if there is only one on the AH for a long time and the only price is 7mil, at some point someone will buy it, because hey, that's the only one, people want it, so only the one that can afford it will get it.
That's just how economy works.
