Has anyone else realized how expensive this site is?

about 12 dollars to get a gene for 1200 gems...
That is outstanding

It does seem a bit excessive for a gene or change scroll, but it's not that bad and I'm pretty used to sites with premium currencies. They have to make money somehow.

The thing is, you can always buy gems with treasure from other people. I'm sure if I tallied up all the gems I've spent, it would be like $200-worth, but I've only ever bought $5 of gems.

Yeah but then think about how much it would cost to buy something like a KS item or Boolean with real money. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

I buy some here and there. I grumble a little every time, but I understand it too. This is a big site to have to maintain, and people need to get paid.

Considering without even buying off other players, you can still obtain gems (Chests, Daily bonus) the gem prices aren't bad. The fact that gems can be traded is a bonus, as a lot of pet sites have it so premium currency cannot be obtained through any means other than buying them with RL Cash.

So sure, 12 dollars seems a lot for one gene, but it can be obtained through normal gameplay with a bit of effort, making FR a pretty good site for premium currency pricing. I myself have already spent $5 on gems, and more likely to buy more in the future as I love how the FR premium currency system works.

Yeaahh. Since you can get gems without real money it doesn't feel that bad, but when you stop and think about the prices of the gem genes and breed changes with the real-money gem prices gosh they are expensive.

c: Breed and gene change scrolls do seem a bit expensive, but stuff like apparel is a lot better :D Like $5 for the new bard stuff with a little bit left over. A lot cheaper than some other sites that sell avatar clothing item things for real money.
A little bit of money for hours of enjoyment on an awesome site like this is kinda worth it c: If we had any income we'd buy gems occasionally

And it is really easy to get gems without spending any real money. We've spent maybe $40 on gems in total which we used to buy scrolls. And right now we have around $200 worth of gems that we got through selling things on the AH or buying from other people.

I definitely think it's excessive when I look at it in terms of real-world cash only. But when I look at it in terms of selling stuff for gems and saving up that way, it's not that bad. It does make me think twice before using a circuit or coatl scroll or whatever, but that's the way it should be.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Reading through them makes me understand a little better. I wish they would lower the gem prices for things in the market in general though, because I have a really hard time being able to afford it with real money or game play collection of money. xD
