What are your personal favorites? And, also, does this affect the price of the dragons? Are there certain genes that cause dragons to be more expensive?

Combinations I really like are X/obsidian/obsidian, X/white/white, and obsidian/x/white or white/x/obsidian. I like monotones especially, though O:

Genes that make a dragon expensive are usually ones that are newly released, like Crystal, Facet, and Spines, or so I hear.

he/they | sorry i barely post lol
My personal favorite is mulberry. I generally prefer iri/shim, seraph and the crystal/facet and smoke mulberries but others are ok.

Gem genes (iri&shim/crystal&facet) I'd say generally are slightly more expensive (though iri&shim are barely more expensive than any other gene that's been around since launch) and whatever the newest gene is.

Honestly, there are so many dragons that no one thing, unless it's been recently released, for example Nocturnes, that will make a dragon substantially more expensive. Everything falls to exalt prices eventually. Triples used to sell for half a million treasure, but now some are barely worth 20k. Pricing is hard and making profit from a hatchery is essentially impossible right now.

@fennekin I really like obsidian, too! Oh, those all sound gorgeous.

@Julia I've seen people selling dragons for 25k-750k and I always wondered if they actually were able to sell. I tend to exalt my dragons, but I was curious if I would be able to sell them for more. I guess that would be a no, haha ^^

@xiuhun Crystal and Facet are new and expensive, so most dragons you see with those genes go for a lot, especially if the colors are nice. Iridescent/Shimmer is also pretty popular, though not worth nearly as much. If a dragon has the same color for two or all three of its genes, it's usually worth more. My personal favorites depend on how it looks on the individual dragon, though I really like gembond in general.

@xiuhun there's always a niche market. If someone wants to create an OC and your dragon happens to have the right colors, to everyone else on the game that dragon's probably worth at most 30k, but to the user who wants it, it's worth whatever you'll sell it for. Gen1 is also a very odd market and dragons will go for millions of treasure. But aside from niches, gen1s and random chance someone just wanted that color combination, there isn't much.

@Julia That makes sense! Would you mind explaining why people seem to be so interested in Gen1 dragons?

I'm no expert, but gen1 dragons are important partly because they are guaranteed to be related to no other dragon except their own descendants. So for example, I dropped 10k gems on a triple mulberry gen1 dragon a couple of months ago because triple mulberry dragons are rare, but having one that isn't related to all my other dragons is a huge boon for breeding more. Half my mulberry dragons can't breed with each other because they've got a great-great-grandparent in common or whatever so gen1 makes it pretty easy to make pairs and bring more mulberry goodness to the FR world.

Another reason why people are interested in them is because they are, in many ways, another thing that can be "collected." This website and the activities are mainly driven by collecting things, be it dragons, familiars, skins, accents, chests, or items. FR players like to be obsessive about something. And gen1 dragons are rare (eggs only) and pretty and certain color combinations are exclusively rare and can only be changed by scatterscrolls which are pretty unpredictable.

Hopefully that clarifies?

@Julia Thank you so much! I understand the interest now :)

Good luck with your mulberry crusade! It really is a pretty color.

@xiuhun Generally speaking, if something is popular it's not rare unless it's new because everyone is breeding them because they sell quickly. Unfortunately this means that if everyone is breeding them you eventually reach a point where the demand has dwindled to near nonexistence because everyone already has one, but the supply keeps increasing because people will keep breeding them anyways. My X/Obs/Obs pairs have reached that point, but I mainly keep breeding them for clan lore reasons. Something that might work well is to see if you can find a color combo that is gorgeous, but not well known and try to create breeding pairs that can easily replicate it. Then try to advertise, but also have them available on the AH so the buyers can easily buy them. As for picking unique combos? Try looking at the accent colors that genes give the dragons, then try to match those accents to the main color of a different part. Here's a good example that I have: How she will look as an adult: See how the light patches on her Ivory primary match the Maize Underbelly? How the light patches on the Sand secondary match the main color of the Ivory primary? How the eyes match the main color of the Sand secondary? Everything meshes really well because of how Ripple causes light spots, and she's gorgeous, but not a well known combo because Ivory, Sand, and Maize are so far apart of the color wheel that most people wouldn't think of it.
