A soft spring breeze whisks past you as you tromp up the gentle, grassy slopes of the Zephyr Steppes. Far in the distance, a dark cloud thunders ominously - probably the Twisting Crescendo, which you make a mental note never to visit - but down here, the sky is light and clear. The colorful silhouettes of bamboo kites drift amongst the wispy clouds, and the winds seem to serenade you with a lively song...

Wait a moment. Halting and lifting your ears, you realize that it isn’t just the wind; there’s real music floating towards you from just beyond the next hilltop. Curious, you head towards it, and just as you’re about to peer over the grasses…

”Whoa, hello there! You’re here for the Jamboree, right?”

A large Imperial, dressed festively in feathers and silk, has swooped down in front of you. He smiles affably. Before you can respond to his question, a similarly colorful female joins the conversation.

_{”Haliun, you didn’t wait for me! Oh - who’s this? Someone looking for the Jamboree?”

Turning to you, she grins and introduces herself. ”Hello, I’m Areto! Hope you’ll have a good time visiting in Wind. It’s not a dangerous place, as long as you don’t wander past the Steppes. Anyway, as you might’ve guessed from the music and kites and all, this is the Mistral Jamboree! Yeah, it’s pretty cool, huh? Everyone’s worked hard on these events for a while!”}

_{”We’re just the welcome committee. We’ll be your hosts!” Haliun continues.

He flicks his tail at the set-up down below in the hollow of the hill. ”There are contests for everyone, including events that involve writing, art, cooking, fashion, and more! Almost too many,” he admits with a laugh, ”But we are hoping to bring our deity home, you know.}

”So what do you say? If you’re up for it, just follow our signpost to the events!”

FANZINE
March 21 - March 29

You pass a large, pastel green tent, brightly lit by sunlight and overflowing with visitors. Areto explains, ”That’s the ‘Eye of the Vortex,’ a collection of themed works made by us Windies to hail our flight’s lore and traditions. It’s not as serious as it sounds,” she adds brightly. ”We have a pretty easygoing culture anyway. And yes, this was inspired by the lovely Fanzine created by the Icewarden's children!"

JOURNEY TO JAMBOREE
March 22 - March 28

A big arena-style tent stands nearby; a large assortment of dragons is filing in. "That's the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure event," Haliun explains. "Quite exciting, you know. Well, only if you manage not to make the wrong decisions. If you're able to stay on your feet - or wings - you'll get good compensation for your time in the end!"

KITE-DESIGNING
March 22 - March 31

A number of excited hatchlings and adults alike are swarming the next quaint, cozy tent. High above, kites painted in various colors float against the blue. "Oh, kite-designing,” Areto says. "Perfect chance to create a kite you'd like to fly! The templates are provided. It's also family-friendly, and the prizes are pretty enticing too."

MISTRAL MASQUERADE
March 22 - March 28

Boisterous laughter, “ooh”s, and “aah”s can be heard from the next tent. You watch as all sorts of dragons - dressed as travelers, deities, and more - seem to flock here. ”This tent is the Masquerade; contestants here get judged on all sorts of categories,” Haliun remarks wistfully. ”And they get prizes just for wearing pretty apparel. I’d participate if I weren’t a host, you know.”

MISTRAL MEALS
March 22 - March 28

A myriad of… interesting… scents float past you from a crowded, bustling tent nearby. Every few moments, some raucous clanking sounds can be heard inside. Haliun laughs at your concerned expression. ”Don’t worry about that. The cooks must be sweating at it by now - for the contest, you know. The judges try to keep everyone’s hungry hatchlings out of there, but it never works.”

MUSIC CONTEST
March 16 - April 4

You wince as discordant notes and mismatched chords drill into your ears from the next tent. Peering inside, you can see dragons frantically working at their own stations, each with a set of bamboo instruments. ”It sounds terrible now, but trust me, the results are always fantastic,” Areto promises solemnly. ”And the musicians do get prizes for their good work!”

RHYTHMED PAINTING
March 22 - March 30

More melodious tones can be heard from a cheerful, colorfully painted tent. A glance inside reveals numerous dragons bent quietly over their canvases, paintbrushes and color palettes at the ready. "What better way to be inspired than to draw to Wind-themed music?" Areto grins. "The best pieces will be rewarded generously - and they'll fit Noodlepappy's tastes exactly, too!"

ROLE-PLAY CONTEST
March 14 - March 28

Muted muttering drifts from a tent with large banners fluttering around it. You catch a glimpse of some dragons debating intently inside and are about to question it, but Areto seems to read your mind: ”Well, that’s the role-play contest; I believe they’re doing some sort of scavenger hunt or puzzle, something of the like, which would explain why they’re getting so excited.”

STORIES & POEMS CONTEST
March 20 - March 30

You pass an unsettlingly silent tent; upon poking your head inside, you understand why. "They're writing," Haliun says as he gestures towards the participants, each clutching numerous extra quills and scribbling ferociously. "Looks pretty intense to me, but you know, they get prizes - for poetry and prose alike. If you're a writer, that's the sort of contest for you."

There was definitely barking coming from the last display: A giant, striped, festively-patterned blimp. ”That’s the clubhouse. If you like corgis, Noodlepappy, and mini-games with prizes, it’s the place for you!” Areto gushes enthusiastically. You shake your head and sigh. Don’t question it.
