TOPIC | One species lair? Pros and cons?
1 2
So ... Sometimes I just really want to make a RB one species lair, cause I honestly love ridgebacks and I love the lore for their interactions - the borrowing form one another, the constant digging and so on.

Only, it seems hard to keep of from all those good looking dergs you find on the AH ... So would you ever do it, go one species? And what species?
If you already have a one species lair, please tell me some of the pros and cons of doing so :D

Here's what I could think of:

Pros
  • So stylish
  • Loving the species you've choosen to go with
  • Highly specialized gathering (say hello Dunhoof if you only do mirrors ... eventually)
    []The styyyyyylle

Cons
  • Getting rid of all other dragons
  • Not impulse buying
  • RIP food storage for one kind of food
  • Highly specialized gathering (goodbye scavenging and digging)
  • Going with an unpopular breed ...

I honestly would really love to have an actual Bogsneak-only lair! And I do currently have over half of my dragons being Bogsneaks. I like it, it means whenever I go into my lair I get to look at all my fat lizards and smile, but then I have too many dragons I love who aren't Bogsneaks to ever go for a full mono-lair.

I mean, my favourite dragon is a Pearlcatcher and she'd look ridiculous as a Bogsneak. So it'll never truly happen.
I can dream though.

I could see myself doing all guardian someday. Probably with the exception of one little fae for lore reasons. Already I have a limited breed lair, only the four big breeds are permas for me. The fae doesn't count because he's ore of a mechanical being approaching sentience, not a dragon.

I would never do it, but if I were forced to I have no idea what I would pick. I do have favorites but I like many of them hence why I would not do a one breed lair.

Maybe another pro is not needing breed change scrolls? Since you would always be buying the breed to keep from getting others you wouldn't buy one to breed change I would assume.

Some genes look better on certain dragons, so it can be restricting.

I don't have any personal experience with single-species lairs, but here are some additional things I thought of...

Pros:

- Lore potential (they're all related and are a close-knit family? You cam base societal stuff off of the social aspects of that breed and so that makes stuff a bit easier? etc???)
- Appreciate your favorite breed, of course
- ~Aesthetic~

Cons:

- Think a skin or accent will fit one of your dragons well? Whoops! It's not meant for your breed.
- Just imagine a lair full of Coatls or Wildclaws. Think about the breeding cooldown.
- No chance of 5-egg nests (though this can be a pro if you don't have any space and/or just don't want 5-egg nests)

[Insert other things here because my brain doesn't want to work right now]

i've considered going mono before but i never can...i have two favorite breeds and two i'm too attached to to just drop forever. a big part of it is lore for me so i guess i could be "oh look at my mono clan" and have other dragons put in a different clan but. eh

I'm in the process of turning my lair into a mono-Tundra lair, and it can be quite restricting at times. For instance, certain genes look better on other dragon breeds, as well as apparel. Usually when I'm lookin' for some nice dergs and end up with a different breed, I'll buy a Tundra scroll out of impulse and the result is usually always pretty good!

I can't ever breed change my Nature boy though... because he just looks so good as a WC.

Non-exalt lair. Striving to be an all-Mirror clan (with exceptions)!

I would love to go all tundra but every so often I find a dragon of another species I just adore and I can't quite do it.

I would go with tundras too, but I have dragons I refuse to let go of and they only look good in their own breed.

Pros
-Floof. Lots of floof. Floofs.
-Tundras are only dragons I can draw well so everyone would get art :D
-I can appreciate Tundras more, plus they have nice skin and accents!
-Lore possibilities. Yes.
-Cheap breed change scroll!

Cons
-Crystal tundras. I don't like how they look sometimes ;-;
-???? Maybe food problems.
-Never buying other pretty dragons in different breeds, if they have certain genes.

Just a floof clan. Maybe it can happen in future :D
