I started as a droplet in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, but I've been in Ice for the most part. Part of why I first changed was that it felt like I could use a change of scenery/pace in life and moving seemed like a good step in that sense. It turns out I could use another change like that now so I'm thinking of Shadow for the next destination.

Ice is an awesome flight. I love it dearly, always will. Can't thank it enough for everything they did and do for me. But I'd like to know if anyone can antecipate me how things are in Shadow? How the forums usually work and that kind of stuff? I know it's a vague way to ask but I think it's better than screening the information before receiving it, so to speak.

I still have to gather the necessary gems so it'll take a while til I move but I figured it'd be nice to see what I could learn in the meantime. Thanks in advance for any contribution!

ps: Replies may take a while due to work, timezones and real life but I'll work on it as I can.

Shadow is the best!!!!!!!! I mean....i cant really compare bc Ive never been in any other flight but I think that's a testament to how great it is!

The forums are a really welcoming place, everyone is very nice, and always willing to help!!!!

We aren't as dom-oriented as many other flights but I think we're on our way to getting back into the game. I really enjoy being a part of dom in Shadow.

@hayley0614 Thanks for the nice reply! It is heartwarming to hear someone so happy to be there. I always hear about the forums being friendly so it's good to have that info reinforced. :)

@Emperors Ohhhh boy. You done asked for it. Prepare to be swarmed by shadowlings - the chatty ones like myself anyway, that will be hopping out to try dragging you to the Dark Side. With cookies, of course!

Where to start, though. Shadow is a community of friendly strangers. This is not to say anyone is isolated; quite the contrary: you don't need to know anyone to be helped or to receive guidance. There's always some shadowling lurking, watching, waiting for someone in need or maybe just bored out of their mind and wanting to improve someone's day. Having a bad day? Someone will listen to your woes and try to cheer you up. Having a good day? Someone will celebrate with you. It's absurdly easy to feel at home without ever really needing to be close with people.

It's kind of awkward nerd central, where everyone can relate to you over obscure fandoms and screaming about pretty dragons. We kind of have an uncanny ease with which we become attached to our babies. Shadow is VERY lore-heavy, and it's rare to find a shadowling without some lore or headcanon of some sort or other going.

Naturally, since so many of us join Shadow for the aesthetic, a vast majority of us has a fondness towards the dark, grim, or spoopy imagery. Never crossing the morbid threshold, but rather, black roses with thorns? That's hella rad. Lolita, lace, etc.

Hmm, what else. Naturally, we're very friendly, if awkward and very chatty amongst ourselves. I like to imagine that we enact the Wood's lore: chittering and snickering at eachother in the darkness.

OH!! Humor! Yes, this is very important! You need to understand that Shadow as a general rule of thumb firmly believes that laughter is the best medicine. Most people are very introverted, but will come out at a chance of humor whenever possible. In here, it's not bad to poke fun at someone else if they slip up, and a large majority of the flight can take a joke with good humor. If you're trying to make someone laugh, it'll be hard to get on that person's bad side.

On that note, Shadow is very, VERY hammy. You've been warned :')

@Emperors I'm not in Shadow anymore, but I spent a year there and loved it! people are incredibly giving/talkative; I asked for advice on familiar collecting once and a fellow Shadowling sent me 3 fams I didn't have ;-; Shadow also has some great lore, and while their Dom activity is rare, they have some truly great Dom leaders

I also think Cinder's description of "friendly strangers" is perfect. You don't need to be close with anybody, but you'll get responses from anybody! Likewise, you'll feel at ease to start a conversation with pretty much anyone you see in your in-flight forums. Though I've switched flights, I'll never forget my time w/ Shadow~

@Emperors Just about everything I can think of has been said already, but I definitely agree with what Cinder said about "friendly strangers" as well. Because Shadow has the dark, sneaky thing going on there are a lot of introverts, so if that's you, you'll be right at home!

I started out in Light and it was amazing, but everything was a little crazy for me. Shadow is slightly slower-paced but in a good way. While we're heavily disadvantaged when it comes to dom because of our large size, I personally think our system is great and on the rare occasion we do conquest push we have a good chance.

Make sure you post in the forums as soon as you switch; everyone will be eager to greet you and shower you with gifts! Here in Shadow we're famous for our cookies, but I'd stay away from the glowing mushrooms if I were you.

@emperors

Hey! I'm a shadeling. Got to be honest. I love it here. I moved to wind for 18 months, and while I felt welcomed and a part of things, I missed shadow deeply. Now I'm back I couldn't be happier. Things can be slow moving sometimes, but that's just what happens when the sun goes down. It starts off slow and before you know it the land is covered with night... manic laughter

No but really, we'd love to have you. The more the merrier after all ^^

I hear that it's shadowy.
I hear that it's shadowy.
My writing project.
Hiya! I joined about four months ago, and have to heavily agree with Shadow being super friendly! i also joined for the aesthetic (fog, dark forests, and things glowing in foggy dark forests are my jam) and haven't regretted it.

Honestly Cinder got it pretty well with freindly strangers. If you want to talk to someone you can find someone to talk to.

I think the worst thing about Shadow is that it is hard to get big projects off the ground and really successful. Looking at you Dom.
