So today while gathering, I found an Ice egg; from my understanding, eggs are pretty rare finds? I just joined during this past registration window and am still getting the hang of the game, and I've seen eggs on the auction house, but I'm not sure if I want to sell it or hatch it?
On the one hand, selling it could bring me closer to getting the genes for my progens, though I'd still be a far ways away even with those profits.
On the other, it's the first egg I've ever found, and could be the only one I find for a long time, so I want to see what's inside it.
Anyone here been in the same situation? Any advice?

While I do think it would be special to hatch my first egg myself, I've decided to sell it. The main advice I've tried to follow since I joined was to save up as much as I can at the start, and I think following with that game plan is the right thing to do in my situation. Then when I'm more well established here, I'll be able to buy eggs if I really want to (or as some have suggested, find them in the coliseum). I don't think I'd buy pretty gen 1 dragons, as I do enjoy dancing with RNGesus, but for right now I have enough dragon genning projects to take care of already.

I suggest hatching it 'cause a) the dragon inside may bring you more gold in the long run than selling the egg, and b) finding eggs are hella rare.
I've never found an unhatched egg myself, so what I'm suggesting is what I'm gonna tell myself if I ever find an egg. xD

Definitely sell it. I know how tempting it is to hatch, but eggs are pretty expensive right now which is GOOD FOR YOU! Plus, if you really want a gen one to gene up (probably not as progens will be expensive enough) just use the funds to look for a pretty gen one in the AH. Then you technically got a beautiful gen one on your first try. ;)
Also, I disagree with dragons bringing you gold. Gen ones are not as valuable as you think they'll be, especially because you can never predict what will come out of them.

Being that it is the first egg you've ever had, there is really no harm in hatching it if you want. Many people don't like the gamble of what colours you get, so it is generally a safer bet to just sell them off. Personally, the first egg I ever got I ended up hatching. They were an absolute eyesore! But some people have gotten really lucky from the draw too. :)
I'd say being your first egg - go for it! <3 You can always get more to sell afterwards if you're not interested in geneing projects or the like.

could get something great and more valuable from hatching, but there's about a 95% chance the dragon will be ugly and worth only a fraction of the egg. Also, since you're still trying to gene your progens, even if you do get a pretty dragon, then that's just more genes you'll have to save up for!
Or worse, you could get an ugly dragon and feel obligated to keep it and gene it, and then you'll end up paying loads of money for a dragon you might never be happy with.

Sell it. When a user says you'll make money with it its likely they mean as a fodder production dragon - thing is that you can use any dragon for that and selling an egg will give you a lot of money at one moment - fodder breeding takes time.

I'd say sell it, but I'd save the money instead to buy something useful. While it's tempting to gene up your progens as soon as possible, you're better off investing in something that you can use to get more treasure. So saving for battle stones for dragons you use in the coliseum would be better imo
Additionally, I don't really understand the whole "it's your first egg" deal. An egg's an egg, and it's most likely not going to be something particularly good. In the long run you'll most likely end up getting rid of it when you find dragons you like more.
