i try to come up with something that fits their theme, go through wiktionary and other stuff
if i cant come up with anything else then i crash into a namegen and pick a name from there

I have a semi-complex system of naming my dragons. Any dragon born outside the clan, including the matriarch, are named after a candy, dessert, or ingredients used in sweets. For example Fudge, Konpeito, Sorbet, Marzipan, Malt, etc.
Thier children are each given a systematic Wind-themed name based on thier closest same gender out of clan ancestor. For example, all feminine descendent a of Coco have a name that begins with "Sky". All masculine descendents of Marzipan have a name that begins with "Yonder".
Does that make sense?

pureblood - I use names that are all somehow water related. Some are a stretch, but that's what happens when you have a huge lair. LOL

I use the ancient language (from eragon) for my progen and their related kids if I want to keep them but otherwise they get fodder names, and specific themes e.g greek/roman gods for my reps, really warrior like names starting with A for my mire/coli dragons (that only happened cause I managed to find two dergs starting A that made nice babs, so babs I want to keep from the dad have names that start with A The A-team
Fodder names for fodder dergs and occasionally like 'person-names' e.g Ryan, Audrey, Jay, when im feeling like i need a small difference

Uh, whatever strikes my fancy? The exceptions are my OCs, fandragons and the three themed dragons Aequitas, Veritas and Eleutheria - their names are Latin for Justice, Truth and Liberty.
