What reason do players have for exalting dragons if not for treasure profit, OR increasing dominance?

Just sold a nice lapis.metallic/obsidian.shimmer/lapis.opal on the AH for 16,000, feeling pleased with myself on my first big sale, and relieved I didnt have to mince my first double coloured dragon in the upcoming profit push.
Only to find the hatchling had been exalted, unnamed. To the lightweaver, which is currently holding dominance. And although I can't track down the individual, I know they are at least down 13000 treasure because of it.

So anyone have a clue as to why people do this? If they have no lair space why buy it in the first place. The only explanation I could come up with is if they are into breeding dragons for profit with similar colours and don't want competition? But that sounds a bit farfetched.

They probably regreted the purchase or found the dragon didn't work with whatever outfit or mate they bought it for.

Friend. You aren't wrong - exalting IS for profit. However, keep in mind that the user that purchased the dragon may not have been the one who exalted it. They mighy have intended it as a gift/psrt of a project, and real fodder snipers like me bought them, trained them to a higher level, and exalted them for a value more than what you sold them at.

Some of the dragons I sold were exalted few moments after purchase, all while not fitting the daily bonus and often from flights that weren't having a dom battle.

I understand regretting an impulse buy, but wouldn't it be more convenient to level the dragon before exalting it? Or if you can't grind, shouldn't you try to sell it again? At least you wouldn't lose as much treasure...

Also, it’s possible, if it grew into an adult, they might have trained it up before exalting and not lost money. Especially if they hit one of the daily bonuses. =D

Maybe it was simply for lair space (because people seem to shop with no lair space all the time). The person maybe found another dragon they liked better or a great price on a gen1 or something, but had no lair space and so had to exalt something for a loss. To be honest, 13k isn't a loss I'd be remotely upset about (to me, dragons aren't "expensive" until they're over, say, 25k), especially if I found a great deal on another dragon I wanted.

Sorry the kid was Unnamed, but at least you got 16k for basically no work on your part!

I exalt if a dragon doesn't sell and I want it out of my lair.

I can't breed more dragons if I don't exalt the ones that don't sell.
