I joined this May, and I know nothing about Night of the Nocturne apart from the fact it takes place this month and is centered around Nocturnes... So help me...what should I expect?

I joined this May, and I know nothing about Night of the Nocturne apart from the fact it takes place this month and is centered around Nocturnes... So help me...what should I expect?
first of all, expect major lag the first day (though still nothing will compare to notn 2014 lag omg)
I'd say its smart to scavenge the whole time, but you can still get strange chests in any gathering section in case you start running out of food.
Strange chests can have a variety of items in them, such as familiars, apparel, noc eggs, and noc breed change scrolls! The chests can also be obtained via the coli from notn enemies, by trading notn food and trinkets to swipp, and by brewing them. These chests will turn into dust once notn ends though, so no hoarding them unfortunately.
I always look forward to the new apparel and fams during notn, they've always been some of my favorites!

there are goofy silly new monsters added to the coli levels just for this event-- mimic monsters-- theyre the ones who drop the chests. its prett funny for example to fight an animated chest with a big puppy tongue hanging out the lid

Usually we get lots of new familiars too, seems like fifteen or twenty to me.
ETA: And beautiful clothes, we got the witches outfits with cobwebs one year and the nightflames last year.

You sell NOTHING from the NotN drops- not because you can't, but because the coli drops are used for swipp/baldwin to get more stuff. Also, don't buy the vistas for the MP. They drop in chests too so you can either pay 600g at MP prince or 12g by the AH. Your choice.
My suggestion? Grind in coli, open or sell chests is really up to you, and if you get those lovely eggs and/or scrolls, vault 'em and wait until the next October, they'll be worth more then. Usually with coli they'll make it so higher venues have higher drop rates with chests, but lower venues are well, faster to run through. Someone'll make a guide on which venue is the best due to those two things- if nothing's changed, it'll be Scorched Forest. Learn how to stretch your wrist properly. You'll need to learn that pretty quickly for all the coli you'll be doing.
