Well they have paws so they would not need to do it that way. But if they actually had developed from snakes (instead of being brought to life by a god) they likely would have or retained at least part of that ability.

Great, I can't picture a Coatl without it being on it's back floating down a river of lava having a favourite rock and flicking its tongue out looking for fish.
