Disclaimer: This isn't another one of those "What are swiftwings" or "Why can't they just slap some legs on them" Threads, this is a thread talking about Swiftwings and your lore. So there's no need to sigh, oldies ;)

So... swiftwings. Do you ever think about them and the lore possibilities? Lately I've been in a swiftwing craze (Ever since I realized they were actually fun to draw), and have been thinking about it a bit.

What flight would they have belonged to? I reckon plague/earth, as in that image their eyes are a browny-red (and I can totally imagine them as some sort of vulture dragon, scavenging on animals). Do the current dragons ever think about them? A rejected flight, a story to tell hatchlings?

Do you have a swiftwing? Lore-wise, of course. I've been thinking about geneing up a gen 1 and making her an accent* so she doesn't have arms.

*Can I even do that? Am I allowed to make drawing or accents or adopts of them? Is that breaking the FR Rules in any way? Am I allowed to have a (lore wise) Swiftwing dragon??? (Me right now)

Swiftwings, if I recall, were actually slapped arms on. They turned into pearlcatchers.
In this case, it would have made sense for Swifties to be light. I personally think they are kind of like dinosaur or ancestors of dragons for our clans.
And lore wise, it would be fun to have one, but I don't have the spare money to get an accent. Would be cool tho

Maybe they were a breed gone extinct before the deities started creating the breeds we have today? Maybe they were the first dragons

Yep, you've recalled correctly. It was that reason that I've chosen to gene my gen1 girl up into a Pc (also because it's easy to do away with the arms in that position).

And true... though they don't seem elegant enough to be light for me.

Maybe! My theory is that they were around when they deities first started making the breeds, but then their deity changed their mind and wiped them out, before no doubt going onto their next breed.

@NocturnistheDark Maybe there was a twelfth deity, or something that wasn't one of the Eleven that created them, and the deities got rid of them for that reason..

Ooo Like the Shade? That would definitely be a reason to get rid of them... though that baby was way too cute to be shade-born.

Maybe the humanoid race had them, before the Arcanist came! That blast wiped out everything, and then they wouldn't have a flight at all...

@NocturnistheDark I like that idea! A flight that came before Arcane... Perhaps lived on those islands and had their own history and culture, and with the explosion they were completely wiped out... imagine Arcane/Earth dragons finding old caves with hints of their existence, maybe a cave painting of a Swiftwing as the only clue of what they might have looked like? Perhaps the Lightweaver made Pearlcatchers to try and preserve just a little of the old Flight/breed, maybe that's why she made two breeds overall - one to preserve a little of the Swiftwings, and one as her own breed?

True! How cool would that be! And also, Light is the flight that looks for past knowledge and investigates ruins and such, so it would make sense that it was the Lightweaver that created a dragon breed styled after them!

I would say they're closer to Fire. Not only are their eyes close to orange, but their design is also a lot more reminiscent of Flamecaller than Coatls, something which has always bugged me because Coatls look least like their deity.

I really do like the idea of Swiftings being mostly unknown history. I wonder why the deities wouldn't bring them up, though? Perhaps the Arcanist was actually very distressed about what his creation caused and it's been pushed aside by them as history for his sake. I wonder what the Pearlcatcher's reaction would be if they found out their origins and why they were created as a second breed?
