I spent a good long while trying to decide what Flight I wanted to be a part of when I first joined. In the end it was Wind that called to me and became my home for the first 2 years before I eventually moved to Ice (mostly for the neutral eye colour)
Currently I'm struggling with where to go to next...between going back to Wind and moving to Light
So how did you guys decide where you wanted to make your dragon's home? Why did you choose that element? Has it changed since you joined?

When I joined FR I decided on Fire because I'm a Sagittarius (a fire sign), have that fiery, passionate Latin temperament, and I'm a creative person so Flamecaller inspiring the work of smiths appealed to me. A couple months later, I decided Fire wasn't for me (primarily due to aesthetic, though dom also played a role).
So before using my free flight change, I spent awhile researching other flights, poking forum threads where people from different flights talked about what their flight was like. The first derg I got outside of my progens was a Ridgeback, and the first subspecies dragons I ever bought were a Lightning subspecies, and I thought (and still think) Lightning eyes are the prettiest and they go well with a lot of what I like to breed, so I leaned heavily towards Lightning, but I also strongly considered Earth because dom and I like the people I've interacted with from Earth, and I also considered Water for aesthetic reasons. But I did decide on Lightning, and moved there in early November, and haven't regretted it. It's a much better fit for me culturally and aesthetically - I like science and sci-fi, I'm kind of a goofball, and I work hard for my dragon cash every week. If I were to ever leave it would be a temporary (six-month) vacation, probably to Arcane for lore reasons, and I'd be coming back to Lightning after that, but that won't be happening for another year or two if at all (I don't feel like spending 3000 gems on a round-trip vacation [1500 to switch, 1500 to come back] anytime soon).

I picked Plague because I liked a lot of the things people said about it back in 2013. I grew to like the aesthetic and I just loved the general atmosphere of the members. I was split down the middle between Fire and Earth because I liked the blurbs for each and I also liked the warm eyes. I think I ended up literally flipping a coin and Fire won out. I really love those orangey eyes, especially on Earthy looking dragons. And I stayed with Fire for a year, during which time I participated in dom when I could (during Flameforger's last year I accepted and exalted a few thousand dragons... lol) and really really loved it! And all of my flight members were awesome and made dom a ton of fun. The aesthetic is also really nice, in terms of looking at the site with actual Fire flight graphics.
But I always felt torn between Fire and Earth. I have a ton of Earth dragons because one of my favorite (now closed) lore hatcheries was in Earth. I'd told myself when I joined that I would switch to Earth during Rockbreaker's last year and I flip-flopped on doing it a few times but then finally went through with it. I really love the forums even if the flight is small. I haven't done dom with Earth yet but they rocked it last year! I love the eyes and the overall aesthetic and even changing my lore to have my dragons move flights has been very fun (lots of monsters in the barren desert type stuff, which I'm a huge fan of, and scavenger dragons etc.)
I think the site lore for Earth fits me better, overall. When I was in Fire I wrote lore that my dragons lived in a lush forest at the base of a volcano and there were lakes and caves and stuff and it was very much not strict to the site lore (huge fire forges and lakes of lava and stuff).
It was sad to move at first because I'd finally started being a bit more active in Fire and the Fire discord around dom times and they are hilarious and all of the Fire memes are golden (eggplants, embers?) But I feel like I'm becoming part of my new flight now, like participating in subspecies stuff and in-flight forum games.

I did no research whatsoever before joining, so I just read the little blurbs and chose the flight that seemed most interesting to me. I don't regret my choice, but Light's aesthetic is a little too bright for me.

my initiial choise was fire as i was looking through the flights and then i saw windsinger and picked immediately(well not really i also read the descrpption as well)

I originally joined Arcane because of Arcanist's design (or his magical circle), but I was debating between that and Light.
I liked Arcane but then decided that Lightning's lore and aesthetic matched me more. I didn't really do a whole lot of research on what the flight communities are like, but thankfully Lightning's community fit me quite well even if I'm not particularly active in it oops.
