TOPIC | What is the Auction House in your lore?

This is the question I've had in mind for awhile. In you guys' lore, what is the Auction House? Do places like the AH (Crossroads, Festive Favors, Trading Post) even exist?

I like to imagine the AH as some really weird, shady, secret black market thing where fodder is sold; and yes, the dergs do use the term "fodder" openly to refer to low-priced hatchlings.

How about you guys?

The AH is more treated like a Flea Market, with the "dragons" section more like either a bus or airplane terminal type deal.

Just imagine a Skydancer holding a sign with "Unnamed Spiral #683920" or "PunksNotDead" written on it and the dragons that pass through will look for this sign so they know who they're finding. Less shady, slavery type thing, more like moving to a new city/town with a friend type.

id rather pretend the derg section doesnt exist and they get in the clan with a different method
everything else is just a regular marketplace, omewhere in the center of the continent where everyone can get to in a relatively short distance from every flight, plus tinier subsets for separate flights and maybe specific clans as well

The marketplace from OoT, or Clock Town from MM, in which the fodder wanders around as NPCs until they are taken home.

something like a mass market; the dragons' section is similar to a job/guild board in which dragons look for clans that fit what they want.

And the money? The clan pays bribes to entice other dragons to come to the clan. Some dragons are more discerning than others, thus they are more expensive.

The high number of fodder + exalts are just pilgrims passing through. The treasure is to make up for the jobs in the founding clan that particular dragon isn't doing anymore.

Everything but the dragon section is like a flee market.

I think of dragons in the AH as loners who are wandering about, looking for either a new clan or the confirmation that they are better off serving a deity.

I use with the Ask the Team canon answer of there being multiple Trading Posts - there are multiple AHs. Dragons offer their services or pay apprenticeship for their children(explaning how so many fodder get sold) and orphanages might be funded by a few to help hatchlings find new lairs where they can learn a trade easily. There are very few AHs in Sornieth, but they're always crowded because you're sure to find anything in there, while trading posts are for smaller purchases.

I've always had this headcanon of a non-flight-exclusive area where dragons can go to buy and sell things, just like a massive albeit organized fleamarket. The difference between the AH and MP here is that the AH sells things secondhand and the MP gets them in directly from wherever they're made (beastclan sweatshops).

In this same area you can find the shops run by the NPC's of the trading post.

The dragon sales are like "Job Wanted" applications pinned to boards.

Familiars are definitely captured, cruelly, and just sitting there in cages until someone comes along to give them a home. Some clans do treat them more kindly like "My hainu had puppies, buy one here!"

except where you buy dragons, it's basically a market place where a messenger goes and gets whatever item they need to buy there and return it back to the entrance of the lair. the messenger also has limited funds to spend on. so if it's too expensive, they'll come back empty handed. if not, then it'll be successfully delivered within an hour.

no one knows who the messenger is though, but it's someone.

Since actual auctions don't happen in it I just picture it as a flea market.

Except the 'dragons' tab. That's somewhere completely separate which is more like a big open park thing where dragons looking to move clans can stick around for a while, or dragons from various clan can come invite new clanmembers. There's also a noticeboard in the middle for people to put "looking to move clans" notes, if they don't want to stick around for a week for someone to come around who might invite them.

Exalting clans are somewhere between religious organisations and martial arts classes, in my lore. "come with us and we'll train you to fight for the gods!"
