So, a lot of people take pride in having a unique dragon. And hey, that's fair enough! A lot of certain combinations flood the markets these days. But it's time to put things into a little bit of perspective.

The total amount of unique COLOUR ONLY combinations adds up to 5'545'233 different possible combinations. That's a lot, if you hadn't noticed. Admittedly, we've had more dragons that that, recently surpassing 40 million. But that's just possible colour combinations. That's like finding how many unique combinations are possible for a triple basic bogsneak.

Let's add genes into the mix. Still the same breed. The total possible amount of GENE ONLY combinations adds up to 10'051. That's a lot! That's just the one same breed though. If you add breed into that, there's a total number of 140'714 combinations for unique breed and genes combos.

Now then, time for the almighty. For this final calculation we are ignoring flight, hatchling vs adult, and gender, seeing as those aspects aren't changeable (well, age is but that doesn't really matter).

When I first plugged this in it was actually too big to fit into my calculator, so I had to get a bigger one. My calculator at first gave me 7.8029x10^11. That's a pretty big number.

When I found a calculator that'd fit the whole number, it came to a big ol 780'291'916'362. That's 780 BILLION. That's a lot of combinations.

In other words: is having a unique dragon neat? Sure is! The dragon market these days is saturated with many of the same combos, so it's great to see something refreshing. But is it difficult? No, not really.

In all honesty I may have done the math wrong... I'm all math'd out today from a quiz haha. If I got anything wrong, please feel free to correct me!

I’m pretty sure my icon dragon is the only breed color gene whatnot of its kind! So that’s super cool.

Okay so before I posted this I just checked, and my dragon is the only obsidian wasp with the other colors, which is awesome. Hey fit so well, I’m surprised I can narrow it down so low, and even when I don’t I got multiple times where there were only 100 or so other competitors. So hey, pretty dreg, good dreg... wow, only 57 other dragons with strictly color combo... lol everyone should do this this is amazing

I have only one dragon I'm aware of being only one existence of his colours. On the other hand, sometimes it's surprising that expected colour combination doesn't actually exist.

Honestly
imo, only way dragon can be unique is unique color combo
because genes and breed can easily be changed(except imp but it's still possible, just really expensive and rare)

by my standards I have one dragon i know is 100% unique, that being Mikasa

Surprisingly, I don't think I have any dragons with unique color combos. My Sparkplate was one of two, and a few others one of four, but no one 100% color unique! I'm sure many are unique if you start to factor in gender genes or breed at all, but I guess I'm a color copycat. Which is a little disappointing, with how darn hard it was to find parents for some of my breeding projects.

The RNG taketh, and the RNG taketh more. The RNG does not give.

I'm sure I don't have any unique dragons, Nidira is closest I have with being one of two with her color combo. The other dragon is male, and a different breed. (there are only five total, exalted dragons included)

Define difficult? Randomly breeding one isn't hard, that's for sure. But trying to breed something unique on purpose? That's torture. Especially if there's no popular color combo close to what you want. TAT It was painful trying to find parents for this boy. Not only could I not find a coatl pair anywhere near these colors, I failed to find parents with all the same genes too. I got really unlucky with his hatch too. Didn't get Toxin or Underbelly from his dad, so I had to regene him from the ground up. One small fortune and an ocean of tears later, I have a truly unique boy I adore to death. :3

I currently have the one and only beige-denim-copper dragon active. And she’s a Gen1! So I’m proud of her and I guess lucky for her rarity.

I'm actually a little surprised that I have a unique colored dragon! My current avatar only shares colors with one other dragon on the website.
