I have some headcanons regarding elemental eggs and how they adapted to their surroundings.

Unhatched Wind Egg
Wind eggs have leathery, pourus shells similar to a turtle egg. This is because, being very light, Wind eggs are at high risk of bouncing or rolling out of the nest. A soft shell makes it less likely they will shattered if they hit something and makes rolling harder.

Unhatched Plague Egg
Plague eggs are similar to frog eggs, but tougher. Instead of a shell they're protected by a tough membrane that holds it together. The inside of the egg is a thick goo and is very bouncy and splatter-resitant. The egg is impossible to shatter; in order to kill it you must crush it into little slimy bits or cut it apart. When the dragon hatches, the goo sticks to it and traps various germs floating around, giving the hatchling time to build up its immune system.

Unhatched Ice Egg
When an Ice egg is first laid, it is not covered in the frozen shell we are used to seeing. The egg is so well insulated that any moisture on the surface freezes within minutes. It doesn't take long for a thick layer of ice to build up.
When the dragon is ready to hatch, it pokes through the shell, allowing the heat to escape. The ice begins to melt as the hatchling chips away at it and soon the hatchling is free.

Unhatched Earth Egg
It's commonly believed that many Earth eggs are lost or accidently crushed before they hatch. This is not very accurate. Earth eggs blend in very well with their environment, so well that if an egg rolls away the parents just wait for it to hatch and collect their baby. They have very thick and strong shells which take a lot of force to crack- unless you are inside the egg. Then it's easy. So accidental crushing is very rare.

Unhatched Lightning Egg
Lightning eggs are rarely stolen by other creatures. This is because the eggs have so much electric buildup that they shock anything that touch them. Parents know to turn their eggs with a stick. Predators learn to leave them alone.

This is all I have, but I would love to hear your own egg-related headcanons! Especially darker ones, like Lightning eggs being used as batteries until they die....

[item=unhatched nature egg] Rather than hatching like traditional eggs, I imagine Nature eggs hatch like little seeds/buds. They're planted in the soil, then the egg slowly "blooms" and there's a little dragon curled up in the middle. The mental image of that is way too cute for me to imagine anything else. :3

This is how G1s are made
the original egg just rolls away, and just. won't. die.

There was a time he thought a single
sword could save the kingdom. A
time, all regrets were yet far away...
Ooh I had the same headcanon for plague eggs!

Also, light eggs are usually emitting a warm light, but it can sense if a predator is approaching and will flash it, blinding it.

This is actually pretty neat! I like to imagine that water eggs also don't have all the barnacles when they're laid. But I do wonder how arcane eggs float? And I assume fire eggs are fire-resistant.

[item=unhatched fire egg] Like its appearance suggests, fire eggs are hot to the touch. While not quite as hot as the lava or magma that they are traditionally incubated in, some clans use fire eggs as an emergency heat source. When they hatch it's more like an explosive eruption, with the rock bits being flung out a few feet from the epicenter where the hatchling awakens in a puddle of warm liquid that resembles lava in appearance.

maybe light eggs give off a light?

for water eggs, they would be heavy enough that they aren't swept away by the currents, but light enough to hover above the sea floor.

Like the deity of the Arcane Flight, Arcane dragons are born out of eggs almost made out of purely magic. The eggs float due to their strange environment. While it is not exactly common for eggs to float away it has happened...a few times. The eggs drive away thieves by, due to the magic they're made of, explode. Well,as it the rings around them explode, then regenerate soon after. This has cause the destruction of many nests, but hey, it keeps away thieves for sure! Make sure to put a net above your nests, and stay safe. (That's my late night take on Arcane Eggs haha)
