This question's been bugging me for a while. I don't mean to sound rude to anyone who has an exalting lair, I genuinely want to know, what's the point?
I know, personally, I always get disappointed when I auction off the hatchling of two of my favorite dergs because it doesn't quite fit my style, and it ends up in an exalting lair. I want the babs I don't have room for to end up being someone else's fancy, and not just sitting on an exaltation pillar for all of eternity.
I guess what I'm asking is why do you buy dragons off the AH just to exalt them? Usually dragons go for about 1/2 their original price when they're exalted, and then no one gets to have them. I don't see how it would be very profitable, except for dom, which I don't really see the point of either, except for getting some extra gathering turns and treasure occasionally. It might be just me, but I'd grab a couple pairs of plentiful dragons and use them as breeding slaves.
This could just be me getting salty over my pixel derg's kids getting exalted, but if someone would actually tell me why they buy dragons off the AH to exalt I'd appreciate it.

Because we like money.

Also, if you level the dragon you can get a good porfit of them. The only advice I can give you is "don't sell at fodder price if you don't want them to be fodder."

@Monkorpio if you level the dergs you exalt, you get profit! But seriously, i understand you.

@Monkorpio

Money. Level 7 dergs net you about 11kT when exalted. The average fodder floor is (was?) 7kT. So 4kT profit per derg adds up fast.

Profit. I'm not an exalting lair most of the time myself, but I know that leveling and exalting is a quick way to make some cash. The only way you can 100% guarantee nobody will exalt your dragons is if you keep them. Perhaps try selling them for higher prices than fodder price? That will at least raise the chances that your customers won't exalt your dragons.

I want to support my flight when we push... And I always have extra space, so it works out well ^_^ when i actually have the energy to coli, that is

Also, since you asked about why not just buying plentiful dragons and breeding them for fodder- i already have just about enough dragons to always be nesting, and I'm picky and don't want to keep just about any dragon. Also just buying saves 20 days of time. (15 breeding cooldown 5 for the fodder to grow)

@Takemi
Ah, there's "fodder prices" that I keep seeing. I'm fairly new to the game in terms of the community and such, what are the general fodder prices for hatchlings vs adults? Sorry for my stupidity.

Because it is a playstyle that pays off. Also no one has the room to host all those dragons you don't have the room for yourself.

I'm not sure what you sell your dragons for, but leveling dragons raises the payout, and if the price was higher than that it may be they bought a couple of dragons and decided later which ones they wanted to keep and exalted the rest instead of going through the hassle of reselling them.

Grabbing just a couple of fodder dragons to use as breeding slaves is done but that isn't nearly enough. A dedicated exalter can exalt hundreds of dragons in a day, those can never be bred alone with the limited nest space.

@Monkorpio
i buy fodder-priced dragons off the AH to train them up in the coliseum for profit. if i train them long enough, i can easily make 2-3kt in profit per dragon. after a while, those small amounts can add up to some serious cash! if you don't want a dragon to be immediately exalted/used as fodder, i'd recommend listing them over the current fodder price-- dragons on the fodder floor get snapped up and exalted fairly quickly.

if i buy a dragon that isn't fodder-priced, they're likely going to stay in my lair for a while. i know i won't get a profit off of a dragon i bought for, say, 30kt, even if i level them up. if i get bored of them, i'll try and sell them to someone else. if that doesn't work, i'll exalt them. i'd much rather have more money in my pocket and a free space in my lair than a dragon i don't want taking up a spot.

@Monkorpio

I know someone answered this already, but fodder prices are typically at and below 7000t. However, the number fluctuates as flights push for dominance. For example, Arcane and Plague are both conquest pushing, so the fodder prices are up to 12,000t

Edit: Someone didn't answer this actually, whooops
