since when is using a gem gene on a non gen1 a waste? i've never heard that before.
in my fr life i have purchased one (1) gem gene, and it was for this girl who was my first dragon that i bought with a specific gene plan in mind.

Eh I use gem genes on any dragon that I think should have it. Don't really care what gen they are.

An example-she's far from a gen one but I still changed her genes (and other things).

The "Using Gem genes on non-G1s is a waste" thing is so ???? to me, and my lair is mostly G1s! :'V
Like, what if you want specific Gem genes on a specific uncommon colour combo? XXX Obsidian Gem gene dragons are everywhere, but if you want a Crimson Metallic/Sapphire Butterfly/Spring Glimmer dragon, the odds of finding either 1) that exact dragon or 2) parents that can breed that exact dragon are pretty slim.
G1s don't really retain their value with gem genes anyway (i.e. you can sell them later, but don't expect to get back what you spent on them). So I breed mine unless I have lore reasons not to.

I know...how do these people expect the genes to enter the economy to meet supply, if you should only use them on dragons that lose immense amounts of worth if bred?

I don't care for the gen 1 craze. I breed and gene all my gen1s the same way I breed and gene all my non-gen 1s.

My computing skills say: "gened gen 1s are valuable, not the kids from the clutch"
I say the gen 1 could be gem gened but it will be hard to sell anyways. It makes more sense to make money off of non gen 1 kids with good colours instead of gen 1 sales

Honestly, the nice part about gen ones to me is the No parents, random XYZ colors and "Build a bear dragon" feel.
I gene mine and breed them right away, some I dont breed for lore reasons. Genes are not made for gen ones, and I find it silly to think its "A waste" to use one on a non g1.
I think most people say its a waste to use on non g1s because you could breed for the gene instead of buying and applying one, but I for one know breeding projects are sometimes so hard that you're better off buying the gem gene and applying it haha.
