Flight Rising Discussion

As I write bios or headcanon for people, sometimes some interesting ideas can come to mind. Most recently, I thought up a couple headcanons for someone's dragon that revolved around fortune telling, seeing, and healing. The dragon was of the Fire flight, so I figured that she could foretell the future via reading soot marks and cracks in burned bones, and the healing aspect could be like that of the Fire Shaman from the Legend of Korra. And, since said dragon was wearing a Twilight Oracle's Guise, I decided that that would be the main way she could see the future, but since she wasn't of the Water flight, divination of any sort drains her energy/magic pretty quickly.

Anyways, this all got me thinking, "People obviously have seers outside of Water, so how would they read prophecies and fortunes?" Would Nature take hallucinogenic plants/herbs for a spiritual journey? Perhaps Earth would use special crystals and gems for readings, etc...

Any who, what do you think?

Ooh, that's a neat idea. I think you're on point with all of those. I wonder if Plague oracles would intentionally sicken themselves and then interpret their fever dreams? And they're highly respected in their clans for braving the Plaguebringer's brood time and time again to glean whispers of her intent.

Pocketing that lore idea.

Wind would toss bits of stuff and sing a la "Colors of the Wind" in Pocahontas (the singing is an important part of the process, though no wind dragon will explain why or how)

What would ice do? Look at snowflakes maybe - seeing as they're all individual. Not sure how much you could tell from those patterns though.

That's a cool idea XD My lair has a seer in Fire Flight but he doesn't know it - most of the time he's a circus fortune teller who just makes everything up. I always thought others would know when he made a real prophesy but I never thought about how - perhaps something like what you suggest.

For my own flight, Ice, maybe a seer could read fortunes from the structures of caught snowflakes, or the futures of the occupants of a home by the patterns of icicles over a doorway.

I don't know about darker, though. Entrails requires you kill something else, which is something that happens a lot in the Scarred Wasteland. Sickening [I]yourself[/I]... you'd be risking death each time, even for a Plague dragon. All neat stuff, though! I'm sure Arcane scries crystals, or crafts spells that allow brief but confusing visions through time. And Shadow dragons - we saw some of their rituals in BOTE, but there's more to be read from the interplay of light and shadow. Or maybe they eat some of those glowing mushrooms that are everywhere. Ice might study [I]how[/I] things freeze - leaves, or prey, or splashes of water. Interpreting from what parts freeze first, or what position something curls into, or what pattern the final product has.

Also light dragons literally just stare into the sun to get their prophecies.
